Massive "No" phase right now. I am barely coping with the things I said yes to. 🫠

Ich bin sehr, sehr ungeduldig. Trotzdem oft langsam. Das ist ein schöner Widerspruch, mit dem ich lebe.

As the physicist Paul Ehrenfest aptly notes, the "exclusion principle" or "Pauli exclusion principle" prevents atoms from shrinking together. "Why is a crystal as thick as it is?" Ehrenfest asks jokingly in a letter to the discoverer.

I am going to Manchester next week 😁. My initial motivation was to visit the Coronation Street set. But now, I will of course also explore science, industry, music and democracy history.

I sometimes have a good feeling for what is actually seen as a good paper. Sometimes, however, not.

On the weekend, i had to help during a medical emergency (i called 112). Person did open their eyes thanks to an off-duty paramedic. Still, the circumstances made it very hard to bear. Thus, still thinking about it.

I am often thinking back to my Boarding School times. This period was only 3 years long and it has been 18 years since then but it so fundamentally changed me, the kid without academic parents from a school in a rural part of Germany.

Car drivers in Berlin: The first one ignores my green light and simply turns in before me. The second one screams at me that my light is now red (even though it was green when I started walking).

A new preprint comes out and I am excited. Weird, actually, after all those years. But I guess I would not be able to work like this if I wasn't excited!

My longest paper project will hopefully soon come to an end. 😅 I have asked about this paper for the first time in 2018!

So, on LinkedIn, I did this post on some challenges I had up to my current position. I am aware many people had them. This does not make me more worthy or anything. I just had a really bad day yesterday and had to remind me that it can be worse and most of the time does get better.

I am watching two soaps (UK/Germany). On both soaps, the murderer of recent episodes confessed the murder to their closest person exactly today (in TV, the German one is one week behind) It's a bit boring, tbh.

Great to see people using agents to write new interfaces to other codes for which nearly perfect solutions already exist. But now rewritten with an agent, partially reusing the packages and without test code. 😅

One of the last lecture days in this semester today and my brain is in pieces again. Will try to patch it together with coffeine. I am awake since 5:30 and I wasted most of the time staring on weird IG posts. Hello.

To lead, you need a positive vision. A vision that is updated together with all of those that you lead. It can even be a challenging and demanding vision, but it needs to be there.

I find this work very exciting, it addresses what I think is the giant elephant in the MLIP room: influence of our “ground truth” (DFT) on physical properties far down the computational workflow. We all know it exists, but very few studies actually investigate it.

Each year, I am updating my materials informatics lecture. It's a justification to reread core concepts and new literature. The selection that I make is obviously also largely driven by my own interests! Independent of that: It's actually amazing each year to see what has happened in between! 😅
