Equally uninformed about music, art and science but likely to post on any regardless. ECM nerd and Gerhard Richter obsessive. If I'm playing music: yes, it's supposed to sound like that.

OK, I was just going to post one, but actually quite impressed at what the software picked out here. It got confused by a couple of things (30 St Mary Axe aka the Gherkin, the Thames barrier in its closed position) but otherwise good with some challenging images.
Paula Rego's complex painting The Raft, which includes in its bottom left corner an image of a small yellow sailing boat, along with images of women, dragons, salamanders and other animals. An end-on photograph of the aircraft carrier the USS Intrepid in New York. A plain white card with a dimly-lit photo in the top third. The photo shows a tree-lined lake with a canoe floating on the lake, with a person slumped over the side of the canoe. The caption on the card states it is a still from the film Friday the 13th. The canoe and figure are partly in shadow and are not immediately distinguishable from the dark water of the lake. A wide angle photo of the sea at Margate. There are rocks in the foreground, and at some distance out to sea, a single figure (an Anthony Gormley sculpture) in the water. A large tanker is barely visible on the horizon.

Sandra Huller (predictably) superb in Rose, a dark drama from Markus Schleinzer. Both of them looking rather magnificent here before the #LFF premiere.
Sandra Hüller and Markus Schleinzer at the BFI for the showing of Rose. Ms Hüller I'm told is wearing Dior, a pale fitted blue-grey jacket with large lapels over a wide A line skirt, plus white gloves with blood-red palms. Schleinzer is sporting a very jazzy dark brown suit with red piping.

What's Up With Stock, Hausen and Walkman - a cassette tape and multiple inserts inside a Kellogs Variety cereal pack, all wrapped up in a biohazard bag.
Cover and contents of the tape What's Up With Stock, Hausen and Walkman. The outer packaging is a biohazard bag for medical specimens with a small printed label attached of a man's face and the album title. Inside the bag is a cereal box - Rice Krispies here, but they could vary - a printed track list, several printed inserts and a cassette tape.

Born 100 years ago. Still cooler than any of us.
John Coltrane photographed by Chuck Stewart. Coltrane is shot from the waist up, is wearing a white shirt and striped suit jacket and is carrying a tenor saxophone. He is looking to his left and is strongly lit on his left side, the other being largely in shadow.

John Coltrane, photographed by Chuck Stewart. Coltrane is pictured on a striped suit jacket and white shirt, and is carrying a Selmer tenor saxophone. The unnamed saxophone player from the film The Lost Boys. The man has long wavy hair pulled back tightly into a ponytail, is stripped to the waist and sporting extremely tight pants with a belt of metallic studs. There are chains around his wrist and neck that would be sufficient to lock up a tank. His body appears to be oiled with the entire contents of a tanker spill. He is holding his saxophone away from his mouth and torso, and is arching his body in such a way as to suggest he is breaking furious wind on the unfortunate guitarist behind him.

Crass beyond belief: an article about Russian assassination plans on US soil in today's Guardian - and the ad that accompanies the article. Shame on you @theguardian.com
An extract from The Guardian website on Sunday 20th September 2026, from an article titled "The rules have changed: has Moscow begun to order assassinations on US soil?"
In the middle of the piece, just prior to a paragraph about "eliminating" Russian dissidents, there is an advert for (presumably) a clothing company which features three sweaters or hoodie apparently drenched with blood down one side with rivuelts of blood dripping from the collars, all of them printed with the legend "Problem Solved".

It has some of the worst-designed and illegible sleeves notes I've ever seen.

#NowPlaying Miles Davis Live at The Plugged Nickel Two people who should have been quieter: 1. Noisy audience member 2. Miles don't shoot me
Cover of the first cd in the set Miles Davis at The Plugged Nickel (December 22 1965, first set). Everyone is metaphorically on fire here, except a particularly chatty audience member who should be, and Miles who sounds like he's having a really off night. But the others in the band? Damn.

Ghent: why am I not living here, part two. For @bombaylychee.bsky.social, a nod to the fine folk in GenX, Music Mania 1 and 2, but it was the extraordinary Vinyl Kitchen and its friendly proprietor that delivered the goods here. Cheers that man.
Four albums in the Wergo avant-garde series: Sinfonie by Lutosławski, Jüdische Chronik by Blacher and others, pieces by Ligeti, Penderecki and others played by cellist Sigfried Palm, and Ligeti's Atmosphères/Volumina. Two records: Stuckenschmidt - Einführung in die neue Musik mit ausgewählten Tonbeispielen from the Wergo label, and David Bedford's Two Poems for Chorus from DG's avant-garde series. Four albums: Japanese copies of Ruta and Daitya by Keith Jarrett and Jack DeJohnette, and Yasmina, A Black Woman by Archie Shepp, plus copies of The Jack DeJohnette Piano Album and Non-Fiction by Steve Kuhn.

If you want chaos, Glasgow's Voltaire and Rousseau is your place.
An aisle in Glasgow's Voltaire and Rousseau bookshop. The aisle is almost blocked by piles of books 4 to 5 feet high in front of the shelves. Some piles have additional piles in front of them. The shelves are stacked to the ceiling. It remains the only bookshop I felt unsafe walking through. The proprietors of Voltaire and Rousseau, almost walled in by books at the desk.

Strong Blazing Saddles vibes here. "Anyone got a quarter?"
A toll booth with a red and white striped barrier stands in the middle of an empty American western landscape. Several men are approaching the booth, which could easily be passed on either side, on horseback. From the film "Blazing Saddles".
