The memory of Minfilia. No joke. In their last interaction - in the aetherial sea following a tremendous crystal explosion in a Garlean Castrum (I swear it makes sense in context!!) - Minfilia pleaded that Mochi learn to ‘live for his cause, not die for it’. He keeps that plea as a solemn oath…

More often than not, Mochi's always on time - and on occasion, when it seems like he's finally going to be late, it turns out he's been in a corner unseen, having been the first person to arrive the whole time! How he achieves it as an Au Ra his size is anyone's guess...!

The only connection I have to any of those is Bozja - and the connection there is quite simple! Mochi was called on to help with the Bozjan Liberation, and because nothing is ever simple with him, he took a whole Light Brigade of Grand Company soldiers with him...!

Mochi's only real 'studies' have involved weaponry - blacksmithing, artificer weaponry, learning about firearms when he became a machinist... Nothing specifically 'scholarly', however. Now he's set up the Sentinels, however, he is starting to pick up a book or two on certain topics...

During his time 'being dead', Mochi was little more than a shadow - though he was 'employed' by Godbert Manderville for a time (Manderville Weapons). After that however, he spent some time wandering the lands and 'doing what he could' before he formed the Sentinels in Ishgard. 4/5

Mochi was very nearly promoted to Storm Marshal upon the forestalling of the Final Days, but his experiences and fulfilment of his personal oath to see the Garlean Empire fall (though not how he expected) led him to resign. He was discharged with 'post-humous honours' - long story...! 3/5

Prior to then, he was first the Azure Dragoon (refer to the DRG Job Quests), until the end of DS, where he resigned from his post. From Post-DS onwards, he served in the Maelstrom as an officer - rising from Storm Lieutenant of the 84th Machinists, all the way to Storm Commander by mid-EW! 2/5

Post-EW, Mochi is the leader of 'The Sentinels Pursuant of the Antecedent’s Vision Most Noble', basically a collective of 'Agents of Inquiry'. His encounters with Hildibrand rubbed off on him, and now he is no longer a soldier, he's finally able to pursue the path of an adventurer (sorta!) 1/5

Mochi adores heights. It's an appreciation he's had since he was a boy climbing heights in Doma, and one that's only gotten better when he became a Dragoon - and still sticks with him even now! I don't *hate* heights, but I have recently discovered that Go Ape is my new final boss...!

SPECIFICALLY. SPECIFICALLY THE "I THOUGHT YOU'D BE TALLER" LINES IN THE IVALICE QUESTLINE. FROM BOTH MIKOTO AND LADY FRAN. WHEN MOCHI TOWERS OVER BOTH OF THEM. He's just baffled by the insinuation that he was expected to be taller than he already is. Even more so from Lady Fran's accusation..!

Bozja is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT canon to Mochi - though primarily for story and GC related reasons. @vivianashtonwol.bsky.social knows the full details ofc, but basically - imagine the Save the Queen questline is a season of ITV'S Sharpe, but Mochi and the 84th Machinists are Sharpe and his Rifles.

Mochi's early reaction to praise is often overly-humble declination of said praise (from ARR right up until end of SB). Slowly, he gets better, but doesn't really start 'accepting' that praise until his return from the First in post-SHB. For so long, he just thinks he's undeserving of it...!

Something me and my friendgroup like to do, is try to divvy up the job quests into each characters' personal stories. Because of this, the quest NPCs are by extension, claimed by the appropriate WoL. E.g. Mochi's DRG quests lead him to Ywain and Alberic, MCH to Stephanivien, GNB Radovan, etc.

Mochi's a very good swimmer, even in armour. His life in Doma, and his proximity to the One River, meant that he has strong memories of swimming with his sister, when they were kids. Bonus: The Ruby Sea felt like a Total Wipeout course for him, like the One River had simply trained him for this.

Mochihira's first real 'defeat' was when the Garlean Empire started to trample all over his people in Doma. Once, he tried to stand up for what was right, only to be kicked away by a soldier. "Come back and fight me when you're stronger, whelp!" He took that to heart. And come back he did...

The more common sight is Mochihira being reflective and brooding. It's rare for him to break down in public, as being a soldier has significantly hardened him to life's woes. In private, however, and only in the presence of those he trusts, the tears flow freely - silent and anguished.

Mochihira is staunchly against bribery - even jokingly. All this time later and he is still not over the cause of the massacre at the Banquet - the fact his own trusted men were bribed by capitalist villains. Do not try it - he's not nice to be around when he's THAT angry.

Mochi's love language is a mix of Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation and Acts of Service. It's really only Acts of Service that shines through during ARR-SB, but slowly the others become a part of that language from SHB onwards.

Both dragoons retired from their roles, the title of Azure Dragoon passed on to Mochihira's 'apprentice', Blyngeim. Once he had recovered, Mochihira took up the ways of the Machinist, hoping it might prove useful in the fight against the Empire. But he still holds onto his lance. Just in case. 9/9

At the tail end of the Second Battle for the Steps of Faith, Mochihira suffered an aetheric seizure from the combined strength of two dragon's eyes and the Soul of the Dragoon. Due to this, he was laid up in bed following the fight, much like Estinien. 8/9

With the help of Ishgard's finest armourers, Mochihira reforged his armour and was granted a gift by Cid Garlond - a new magitek lance. With this weapon, Mochihira entered the final battle of the Dragonsong War - taking both the power of Hraesvelgr's eye AND the Soul of the Dragoon in hand. 7/9

Following the rescue of Raubahn, Vivian returned Mochihira's Drachen Mail to him. He would wear this all the way through HW until 3.2, where the return of Estinien (possessed by Nidhogg) prompted Mochihira to try and face him in battle. Instead, one strike from Estinien destroyed all his gear. 6/9

Acquiring cheaply forged armour and a hood, Mochihira followed Team Echo into Ishgard, suffering from taunting visions of the Banquet - and his former 'friends' in the Crystal Braves' 5th Brigade. One good thing that came out of this daze was his meeting with one Corvielle Howlingstar... 5/9

Mochi lost his Drachen Mail during the Banquet - he had asked Momodi to hold onto it for safekeeping whilst he wore a suit for the momentous occasion - and as part of a promise he made to Minfilia to let himself 'stop being a warrior', at least for a little while. This would be a mistake. 4/9

Though the trials were... 'eventful', Mochihira passed with flying colours - and just in time to lead a squad of Maelstrom lancers in the opening stages of Operation Archon. It was during this skirmish that he would duel and defeat Rhitatyn sas Arvina. His finely honed rage served him well. 3/9

After Minfilia's kidnapping, Mochihira fell into a vengeful daze, splitting from Team Echo for a time. During this period, he was asked by Ywain to assist an old friend - Ser Alberic of Ishgard. This set him on the path of the Dragoon, where he would meet Estinien for the first time. 2/9

Instead, he sees 'ghosts' if you will, of a memory - seeing people acting out a previous discussion, or argument, etc. Viewing these visions allows Mochi to uncover new details or track objects or people. Like I said, Sherlock Holmes style mind palace, pretty much! 2/2

Mochi's echo specifically only allows visions and communication with dragons. At least pre-EW. To make things simple, I'll just say that *shenanigans* happened near the end of EW for Mochi. Now his echo acts more like a Sherlock Holmes mind palace, and he's not suddenly frozen in place. 1/2
