Those crappy adverts you get at the bottom of websites... Fair play to his wife though, she knows how to hold a pose.
Screenshot of two terrible adverts from a website with the same photo of the same woman sitting on a beach but with two different backgrounds and the tagline "He Took A Photo Of His Wife - Then Looked at It Again" or similar. Who falls for this rubbish?

I’ve seen this kind of post a few times and whilst it’s true that Simon Clarke wouldn’t have any first hand experience of the 1970s and 80s, it’s perfectly valid to have an opinion on a time before you were born. The fact that his opinion is overly simplistic jingoism should be the point.
Screenshot of a post in X by Simon Clarke MP making a cliched argument about how terrible the 1970s were in Britain (because of Labour) and brilliant the 1980s were thaks to Thatcher with a comment above by a BlueSky poster saying how would he know because he wasn’t born until 1984

Deleting old files and found this I made with a comic books app back in 2007 just to see how it worked (using a photo I took on a holiday in France). You can't beat a round of mini golf.

Cultural post #2: This week I have mostly been listening to the new Beck album ‘Ride Lonesome’ which feels instantly familiar and as comforting as a warm bath. It’s beautifully done.

Cultural post #1: Enjoyed S1 of Sugar on Apple TV but wasn’t sure if S2 would be worth watching after *EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED* (no spoilers) Actually it’s fantastic TV: cinematography, editing, music, script, the nods to Chandler and film noir. It’s nice to watch something unashamedly ‘arty’
Colin Farrell as a private detective in Sugar from Apple TV.

Lisa Nandy criticising the state of being “far too small and far too timid for too long” about regulating the internet in the face of new technology... It's true but who has been the Culture Secretary for the last two years? Where has she been?
Guardian Politics Blog screenshot: "Nandy says for too long government has ceded too much power over internet to private sector
Lisa Nandy, the culture secretary, criticised previous governments for giving private companies too much power over the internet revolution in her speech to the conference.

In the face of new technology, and in particular the threat that the internet posed to women, the state had been “far too small and far too timid for too long”, she said.

She went on:

I am on a mission to change it.

Because the World Wide Web – that created by Tim Berners Lee, to share knowledge, not exploitation - has revolutionised the way we live. An extraordinary democratic force, a source of connection, creativity and solace that has unleashed incomprehensible hatred, anger and polarisation - ask yourselves this, while it has undeniably shaped and defined us, have we done anything like enough to shape and define it?

Like the printing press, electricity and television, it has upended society. But what is almost unique to this moment is how absent the state - on behalf of its people - has been for so long. We have outsourced a revolution almost entirely to the private sphere to shape and police.

It is ... an almost violent indifference. To the women whose privacy and dignity is stripped from them. To the children who are preyed upon, their childhoods stolen. To people - how many of you in this room particularly women - hounded from public life. Where anger is monetised and profit put before people’s lives.

So conference, we are calling time on that indifference. Enough is enough.

Nandy said the government was introducing a social media ban for children and legislation to make it impossible for them to take or share nude images on their phones. She also said the government would take action to stop the circulation of non-consensual intimate images online."

“To save Piddington from a camp of 5000 black and brown men we will invade the village with 5000 men *dressed in black* instead”
Screenshot from the Guardian

“A former bodyguard for Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, Thomas established his anti-immigration movement after serving a prison sentence for attempted kidnapping.

In an interview with Robinson, broadcast on Friday night, he said: “How powerful would it be if 5,000 men … surround the [Piddington] camp. We take tents. We sit there for days and we don’t let them [the asylum seekers] get in. And then we reinforce [the blockade] with members from the north, from Scotland, from Ireland.”

Lee Anderson: "[Orr and Jukes] were told they had to step down. They have stepped down" and "No, there’s no chance of them coming back. They’ve stepped aside" *makes note in calendar to check that in 12 months time
Two aides suspended over donations allegations have 'no chance of coming back', says Reform UK's chair Lee Anderson
Lee Anderson, the Reform UK chief whip and party chair, has said that James Orr and Dan Jukes – the two aides primarily involved in the apparent plot exposed by an undercover investigation to evade electoral law – were suspended and won’t be coming back.

In an interview on Sky News this morning, Anderson said:

[Orr and Jukes] were told they had to step down. They have stepped down. And that’s got to be the right thing to do.

The presenter, Kamali Melbourne, put it to Anderson that Orr, head of policy at the party, and Jukes, a key aide to Nigel Farage, were both very important figures in the party and asked if there was any chance they could “come back”. Anderson replied:

No, there’s no chance of them coming back. They’ve stepped aside.

We’re a serious party, you know, and sometimes in politics, you have to make tough decisions, harsh decisions. I think this probably was an easier decision, being given the option to stand down.

They have gone. Like I said, they’ve left the building and our focus now is on the conference today.

Eerily similar to The Telegraph's Allister Heath It's almost as if this is the new line from the fossil fuel companies: there's no point fighting it, we just have to adapt.
Screenshot of July 2026 opinion piece headline for The Telegraph by Allister Heath saying Britain should abandon net-zero policies, claiming mitigation is futile. Instead, he suggested the UK should pivot to adaptation and learn to embrace a warmer, drier "Mediterranean climate". Almost the exact same message uttered by Richard Tice a month later.
