game borrowed from bsky: Share the last 4 #TTRPGS you played and expose your gaming habits (or don’t). D&D5.5 Merryshire Detective Agency (bonus: The Slow Knife. Is this a TTRPG?) Agents of the Night (homebrew gumshoe hack) Scum & Villainy

@adapalmer I'll try to prioritize it...next year. I always find that a tough category--how do I vote for it fairly? But at the very least, I can read whatever is in the packet.

@glitch25 That said, I'll note that I hit google on the subject and both the regular search and the AI summary pointed me to dtdd -- gemini listed it first, followed by Book Trigger Warnings and Trigger Warning Database, while the main list had the two general sites listed above first and second.

@glitch25 Hee! Talking to humans is often the best appraoch. I'd actually never used dtdd before, but I'd heard about it years ago (including that it had quickly advanced from a warning site about dead dogs to a general effective content warning site), and when I hit it for the first time before […]

@glitch25 I mean, Does the Dog Die (www.doesthedogdie.com) is the OG and tends to be both crowd sourced and very detailed. But it does also tend to have a lot of details if you read the comments.

@zoy Polaris (Ben Lehman) is pretty good for this, but you need a compatible partner (plays 2-4)

I wrote a bit on games that are bad for you here: mneme.dreamwidth.org/99744.html What games are you playing that are trying to hack your brain, waste your time, or take your money? #games #gametheory #gamesthatarebad

RE: dice.camp/@atlasgames/1165743634261… Nice! If I find the time, I should do a short writeup of the WaRP hack we (mostly @drcpunk and I) developed for Cthulhupunk +20 (mostly, all dice explode, no HP or shots, all combat is gestalt; basically a stripped down kit)

If you've ever wanted a more relaxed, contemplative place to talk about TTRPGs, Alarums & Excursions' legacy continues with everanon _Ever and Anon_ -- a free collective/collated fanzine (also known as an APA), compiled once a month! We've been getting a lot of OSR new contributors over […]

@brettcannon I just...don't follow anyone on the fediverse that talks about politics all the time. I can get that on Bluesky; I don't need to see it here, so I curate my follows.

@drcpunk said that the simplification of a PC (pow: 90) in a POW contest with Hastur (Pow: 175) is that the PC succeeds on an Extreme Success. So I had to calc it.(also, her original estimate was that Hastur has 165 pow, which makes it easier). FIrst: CoC7, to my consternation, says if you […]

This is how creative works work;;TTRPGs are still, 50 years in, quite new! Sometimes you have to let the fact that little in a work is technically new -breathe-, and let people steal little ideas and merge them into new creations that stand, without having to document everything in a […]

But honestly? As people borrow and iterate on and steal ideas from one another--all the signs of a healthy folk process, the insistence that every idea Must be tagged with the name of its originator, that every idea and every mechanic must be credited is actively corrosive to the hobby. Nobody […]

But games -- and TTRPGs more than most, are a folk process. There are a few places where people have protected their novel game ideas, and even some where this is legally defensible, sure. And sometimes people want to honor creators whose work they value; that's a strong choice and no shade on […]

3. Something like this isn't actually a rule. It's a meme. They are not the same thing, actually; even if one is trying to give credit for rules you've borrowed (see point 4), trying to credit every -idea- you use is ludicrous. Leave the history for the historians; the point of memes is that […]

But first, it's unlikely that the people in question were the first to include a "no nazis" rule in their rgame, and second, following the standards for the US Patent Office, combining two non-novel ideas doesn't get you a novel idea. If you didn't invent anti-facism, adding anti-facism to your […]

I'm reliably informed that someone is claiming that White Wolf (and presumably other gaming publishers, indie and non-indie alike) are stealing their work by including a "No Fascists" rule in their game. There are at -least- four problems with this in my eyes: 1. No, you didn't invent it. This […]
