She was a Mean Girl, he was a Fullmetal Boy

I’m on the Falcon and Millennium Empire arc of BERSERK now that I have a few more deluxe editions. Miura’s art is beautifully brutal as usual.

Mike McFarland gave so much to the anime fandom. Anyone who watched any anime in English experienced his handiwork. This scene from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, a dub he directed and voiced the character Havoc in, will get me choked up on rewatches now. We’ll see you at the top, Mike. 💔

And our first anime review of the day has @mmjdanny.bsky.social getting a bit more on track with ye olde Bleach.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

Getting back on the Bleach train has taken time but I’m glad to finally be back! I almost wish I was still behind because I know the ending is coming up. 😭 Anyway enjoy lol

New Bleach review tomorrow btw.

Reminiscing about this tweet from Vic Mignogna’s lawyer right after the courts threw out most of the case lol.

And if I said she is actually so hot?

000

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

Yeah the smoking is mostly just a pretext to get the characters talking and to be fair it’s probably the easiest and most natural way to get there given the setting.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 05/09/2026

I watched the first 8 episodes of Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You and I am in love! I was worried about it being pro-smoking propaganda as a non-smoker myself. It kind of still is but it’s a lot more tender and positive than I expected and the Japanese voice work is fantastic.

I live! Finally BLEACH reviews/analyses are back for one final cour! Expect these to be somewhat sporadic as I get caught up, but for now it’s good to be back. Enjoy! Spoiler: I’m a bit horny on main for Yoruichi. Let me have it for an episode.

My Adventures With Superman is over (hopefully just for now) but I can’t get my head around so many people on Twitter being annoyed that Lois was the one to propose. It made perfect narrative sense to anyone who watched the season! It was a great way to end the season, and it was adorable!

Lois gets on one knee and proposes to Clark.

This is just straight up 2 hours of the best action you’ve ever seen. My god.

When the partnership ended, many of the titles that moved around shuffled. This is why The Ancient Magus Bride and Saga of Tanya the Evil were removed from Funimation completely and the dubs were added to CR. I wonder if some weird legal wrench from those days is what’s to blame.

000

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 30/07/2026

During the Funimation x CR partnership, many catalog Funi titles moved to CR as sub-only versions while Funi had the dubs. After the buyout, some of those dubs never made it back to CR. This also includes A Certain Magical Index II and A Scientific Raulgun S. Both are sub-only. Very bizarre.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 30/07/2026

She was also selling these old Funimation promo posters that happen to have a quote from the publication I now write for. So of course I had to get one of those too.

I know Steins;Gate Day passed but in honor I wanted to show off a prized piece in my collection; my Blu-ray/DVD set signed by Trina Nishimura, the dub voice for Makise Kurisu! She was so sweet and imo the dub for Steins;Gate is one of the best out there. Shame the dub was never added to Crunchyroll.

Second and final B&N Criterion haul finally arrived!

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 27/07/2026

I don’t know what happens in the new episode except Yoruichi pulls out her God of Thunder form and it’s going to take every bone in my body not to just be horny on main the whole review.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 27/07/2026

Yes, I know BLEACH Thousand Year Blood War is back. Reviews are coming! I need to sort some stuff out but hopefully I can get an episode 41 review out before the end of the week. Sorry about the delay!

KISS KISS FALL IN LOVE! Was really glad to rewatch OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB after so many years and do a nice little retrospective on it! I talk about how good it looks, its progressive values, whether or not it needs a reboot, The Elephant in the Room, and more! I hope you like it!

Every so often someone likes my tweet from years ago celebrating a few years since Vig Mignogna lost work and I take some solace in knowing he’s one of the few people to be perma-canceled. At this point it’s safe to say he’s probably relegated to Anime Matsuri forever.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 18/07/2026

Man I really do not want to go back to work tomorrow lol

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

Update: looks like it’s available on Amazon and RACS now. Guess they decided this particular franchise was too lucrative to lock behind their upcoming paywall lol. Looks like it’s not a Crunchyroll exclusive anymore! a.co/d/07Sd6KdQ

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

The Apothecary Diaries steelbook isn’t listed on the store anymore lmaooo The original product page link is still up and the product page is still there but you can’t add it to your cart. Oh well more money to MediaOCD I guess.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

A year and a half later and hardly anything from Crunchyroll’s winter 2025 lineup has actually been released. If this was 10 years ago they’d all be out/announced by now.

000

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

More anime, films and TV are made than ever before and yet the amount of physical releases has actually shrunk drastically. Funimation used to release 20 titles a month (10 new vs 10 rereleases) and that was before we hit current levels.

101

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

5 releases. 2 are steelbook rereleases and 2 are sequels. Just one new title. It’s abysmal how these companies (Sony is not alone) are sitting on huge libraries of shows and movies and expect us to accept 2-5 titles a month. Pathetic how we are STILL missing stuff like Apothecary S2, Zenshu etc.

110

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

It was! I thought it was cool, but now it’s like it never even happened.

010

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

Discotek and AnimEigo are the anime messiahs lol. I would love for them to get some of these lost Funi titles. AnimEigo did get Master of Martial Hearts. Doesn’t really solve the streaming problem unless there’s another deal though.

010

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

It’s appalling Aniplex decided to do fuck all with Re:Creators given how much they hyped its pedigree. But nope. Streamed for a few years then into the trash with no dub nor Blu-ray. And I can understand letting go of underperforming catalog titles (as long as there’s discs) but Black Lagoon???

210

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

Yup. I’ve been perusing my collection lately to see what it’s worth and am flabbergasted by what is no longer streaming. Among shows removed: 91Days, School Rumble, Hunter x Hunter, and while xxxHolic doesn’t have the “videos are unavailable” message, the episodes are gone with a “check back soon.”

010

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

Oh hey. Nice this piece of mine is getting bumped. I had fun with it. I recently saw that Crunchyroll removed Death Parade shortly after this was published! Its 10th anniversary and it’s gone. Gotta love it! And the Blu-ray is out of print! They just did the same thing during Black Lagoon’s 20th.

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

It’s fucking crazy. The only reason they could be leaving so much money on the table like this is banking on pushing big IP and FOMO drops. But it’s not even just CR. I remember when Amazon had fuck all to do with anime. Seems like Discotek and AnimEigo is all we have left and maybe GKids.

000

Dan Mansfield @mmjdanny.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

Been lamenting lately how the anime industry used to feel run by fans for fans and now it feels run by corporations for normies (or investors if you’re feeling a bit more cynical).

The feds should never have allowed Sony to buy Crunchyroll or even Rightstuf. Retrospectively the worst thing to happen in the anime industry within at least since the bubble pop.
