Logging back onto social media is disorienting. People are upset about so many things. Sometimes, these things are legitimate and I feel embarrassed and ignorant because I wasn’t aware of the issue. And other times people seem to be trying to fight a random song for…reasons? Idk

The inability for NFL officials to agree on what constitutes a catch or a fumble can be traced back to the NFL being unwilling to admit that Dez Bryant caught the ball. NFL football literally makes less sense because they won’t cop to making a mistake.

I’m not sure that dedicated soccer fans understand how off-putting the FIFA drama was to people trying to get into the World Cup this year. I read, listened to podcasts, watched the games, and learned a lot. And now…I’m probably just out on future World Cups.

Honestly, I’d be perfectly fine with that. Sometimes people disagree about calls, that’s a part of every sport. This just seems like a lot of drama for something that an organization this old should already have processes in place to address issues when they arise.

I can understand that, but I don’t get why it has to be that way. If they came out and said, “This stands, but it’s bad & we will try to keep this from happening ever again when this tournament ends”, I could completely understand that. If there’s no room for change, it’s probably not for me.

I completely understand being upset about the way FIFA handled this. I don’t really understand being upset that Balogun is available to play. The result is right even though the process was wrong. And I’m starting to understand that maybe FIFA & the World Cup just aren’t for me, which just sucks.

Coming at this as someone who’s much more into basketball, and specifically the NBA, is wild. The NBA would literally adjust on the fly or immediately say “we’ll address this rule in the offseason, we absolutely see the issue” It would be a non-story in like 3 days.

Look, I’m no expert. But here’s my simple take on the situation: If you think Balogun should stay suspended OR should be allowed to play, direct your anger to the correct spot: FIFA Demand that they be better. We do it with other sports. There’s no reason they should be an exception.

Idk what to tell you, I disagree strongly with FIFA here and on many things. I’d like to see changes that result in the ability to have incorrect officiating impact the game less. I’d be happy if they announced a change to the rule will be coming post-tournament even if Balogun stayed suspended.

If the rules are resulting in wrong calls, they need to be changed. If you want to say it can’t happen mid-tournament, I understand that. But they’ve had plenty of time to fix this issue, and I cannot get on board with how much power the officiants have to tilt the entire tourney.

Also: if you think *THIS* means there will be an asterisk next to anything the USMNT accomplishes during this World Cup…I’d suggest looking at the history of the World Cup. I promise, an opaque review process that results in a *correct* ruling does not even register on the FIFA sketchiness scale.

Idk if Trump had anything to do with it and doubt any of us ever will. Maybe FIFA did it for ratings, who knows? But the Balogun suspension *should* have been overturned and the fact that they don’t have simple, transparent processes for things like this needs to be fixed.
