As a historian, I’ve always been careful with the word “fascism.” I’ve seen how it gets weaponized, how it shuts down debate, how it loses all meaning when everyone throws it at everything they don’t like. That caution felt responsible. But caution can become its own trap. Because fascism isn’t a vague insult. It’s a pattern that historians have studied for decades. And at some point, being careful with the word starts to mean being blind to the thing itself. That’s what this video is about. Not panic or doom, but taking the time to actually look at the evidence the way historians do, and asking honestly: does the pattern fit?I think the answer matters. Not because it should make us feel hopeless, but because every time in history that people recognized what was happening early enough, they stood a better chance of stopping it.This video took me a while to make, because I wanted to get it right.
