picked touhou 6 back up and the pretty high amount of random bullets got me thinking about something someone smarter than me said on here wrt shmup routes, blah more statics = more concrete emotional rhythm even at the cost of improv and what we quantify as decision making

addendum to lrt: do not post "guy i thought was annoying now outed for legitimate reason to hate him" or some variation of "i always had a weird feeling about that guy" or "i never liked him" about credible rape accusations. don't make victims speaking an opportunity to post about how epic you are

to wrap up my trio of klonoa articles for this year, I've got a look at empire of dreams, another valiant effort by the now production jobbers to keep a namco series trucking. the results actually sets a new standard for klonoa puzzling, and you can read about how in the link below!
first paragraph: While the main Klonoa team finished up Lunatea’s Veil, Namco contracted out their frequent collaborators at Now Production to produce a sequel to Moonlight Museum for the brand-new Game Boy Advance. The result, Empire of Dreams, benefits from only minutely iterating on its predecessor, despite the addition of action-oriented auto-scrollers and bosses to break up the puzzle gameplay. The enemy roster, Moo blocks, and copious amounts of air vents all return, and the level structure retains the now-contextless moon fragments and doors that powered the winding inner loops of Moonlight Museum.1 Thankfully, Empire of Dreams compensates for this by speeding up the entire learning curve, cognizant that most will have not played its obscure prior entry but not beholden to that game’s agonizingly slow opening. Boomies, the cornerstone of these games’ timer- and storage-driven puzzles, appear by the third world, and the early stages lean more into interlocking room designs instead of barren left-to-right affairs. If that’s still not quick enough, each world’s boss unlocks when after a certain number of stages have been beaten, so occasional stages can be skipped for those not interested in full completion.

Hi, I don't have much in my pocket at the moment, about 100 bucks to spare to weather the week. Any donations would help prolong until I get paid Monday. Thanks.

So, time's nearly up and my money's draining fast since my siblings and child still rely on me for their transportation and meals. Had to spend a lot for an oil change, first-time passport registration, and a good meal for them. I'm not going to have enough to hotel hop for the week. Please help.

been a while since my clear so I went back and re-familiarized myself with the original puzzle bobble! it's arguably the most influential true arcade puzzler of all time (tetris and puyo were pc games!) and stunningly unique on every level. link to my review below!
It’s hard to imagine that Puzzle Bobble arose from nowhere in particular, but none of the post-Tetris random-piece puzzle games that came prior resemble it: it’s match-three, but the board is designed by-hand and drops from the ceiling, crumbling only as the player shoots bubbles into it. One might surmise that, in an alternate universe, a continuous lineage from Breakout and Arkanoid to Puzzle Bobble exists, with some intermediary game that blends the real-time paddle of the former with the match-three of the latter, yet none exists. The key genetic trait retained here are the ricochets, a dollop of the basic kinetics from the block-breakers injected into the more modern puzzle concepts. Puzzle Bobble combines this with a hexagonal grid to create craggy playfields where one can sneak bubbles into crevices.

complex type chart, fairly strict 1v1 focus and the move limit def make for fun teambuilding (albeit aesthetically compulsive) but the encounter design def has that rpg thousand paper cuts quality + loose balance and economy that make it easy to Not think sometimes (baby games i know)

spent quite a lot of time this year on outrun 2 sp, both from a scoring and a time attack perspective. over that time, it's elevated from a vibes classic for me to a mechanical totem, up there with any of my other favorites. link to my analysis below!
first paragraph: Players familiar with the effortless gear drifting of OutRun 2 may balk at the idea that it inherits much from the team’s prior Daytona and Scud Race titles, but common DNA threads through each one. Despite first appearances, OutRun 2 relies on the same exaggerated vehicle model: a strict power band, stiff handling at high speeds that frequently understeers, and drifts that linearly drain speed until exited. In the latter case, Daytona used engine braking to initiate drifts via holding a lower gear for a period of time before stabilizing the speed (which correlated with turn angle) by shifting back up. In OutRun 2, virtually every turn is solved with a plink across the shifter buttons, with little time spent in the lower gear. Instead, fine angle control is mediated through countersteer mechanics, letting the vehicle nudge laterally and alter the vehicle rotation angle on the fly. The choice makes OutRun 2 vastly more approachable at a glance, but a major change to the SP version brings back another Daytona mechanic for incredible flavor: slipstreaming.

finally I return to my long-form articles after half a year... backloggd legend drax asks: what exactly does "arcade-y" refer to? in response, I explain my reasoning for three major fundamentals of the arcade style, each of which drives the arcade mechanics we know and love. link below!

traditional watercolour illustrations of lalah sune from mobile suit gundam dressed up in various outfits with star motifs. the outfits are all black, yellow and white with some red details.

on the left is a full body of lalah in laced boots, a black striped skirt with star buttons, and a yellow sweatervest and shirt. the sweatervest has a shooting star on it. next to that is a thigh up drawing of lalah in profile. she wears a yellow ribbed cropped shirt with short sleeves and a black leather skirt with a star zipper.
