It makes much sense to me to link Cabuniaegino with water, as curative wells and springs are common in all of Europe and have so much importance in celtic traditions. Every other detail is based on archeological evidence from the Iron Age that I will show you in a later post.

I made this illustration of Cabuniaegino, a pre-roman deity of the Cantabri. His name is only mentioned in one inscription on an ara (a type of votive altar) found near the oppidum at Mount Cildá and has been interpreted as a god of healing and medicine.

Doesn't it make you a bit emotional to think that people 14000 years ago were looking up to the same sky and probably feeling the same awe at a falling star we do today? Maybe they made wishes too!

This year's illustration for the "Altamira para escolares" educational activities program at @museodealtamira.bsky.social focuses on children again but also on nature and our relationship as humans with our environment.

Aren't petroglyphs fascinating? I drew this panel filled with dots and crosses from Valderredible in preparation for my archaeological drawing workshop at Tribus del Íber a couple of weekends ago. 🖌 Do you like more just the ink drawing or the one with the watercolor background?

The knife and all personal adornments are taken from diferent finds from Mount Bernorio, Las Rabas and La Ercina hillforts (the last one is not a Cantabrian site but it's geographically and culturally close, and has an interesting array of buckles).

Their clothing and choice of colors is inspired by Strabo's description of the Cantabri, one of the celtic groups in the Iberian peninsula who were, along with the Asturi, the last opposition to Rome's full occupation of Hispania.

The baby blackbirds in my flowerpot have grown so much! They are about to jump out of the nest any moment now so I made a cute drawing and wrote a bit a bout them (in Spanish) on my Ko-fi. You can read it here -> ko-fi.com/post/Hay-mir...

Two little blackbirds have been born minutes ago in a flowerpot on my balcony 🥰 They are so so tiny!! And look very hungry. Don't worry, their parents are taking good care of them and us humans at home are not interfering 🤗

A COZY DWELLING - SO MANY COLORS #prehistovember2025 I joined two prompts together to imagine the appearance of an Iron Age hut. A hearth, herbs, warm blankets, things for weaving and a sleepy scruffy dog by your side are the epitome of coziness and what everybody needs to be happy in my opinion.

I can see at first glance it's difficult to see these shapes as human-like but it does make sense within the graphic context of Cantabrian Bronze Age. Many of these figures also "wear" a dagger by their side or at the front, a clue to what they represent.

At the highest part of the trail you can find a Bronze Age treasure: two stone circles and several standing stones. The main stones are no longer standing but even laying on the ground broken and eroded they are a fascinating feature, especially the two depicting anthropomorfic idols.

MADE OF STONE #prehistovember2025 One of my favourite places to hike to is marked by many peculiar stones, both natural (although local legends state they were dropped by the devil himself when he went to build the Roman aqueduct in Soria -go figure) and man-carved.
Watercolor painting of a horse in front of five standing stones in a foggy scenery. Two of the stones show carvings belonging to the Bronze Age.

NEW ACQUAINTANCES #prehistovember2025 Almost 40,000 years ago the first "modern humans" arrived in Europe and found it was already populated. Artifacts suggest there might have been an exchange of either material goods. Current genetics confirm sapiens and H. neanderthals exchanged more than tools 😏
Watercolor painting of a young Homo sapiens man embracing a neanderthal woman in a green woodland environment. Both are smiling.
