I had such a good time reading the faux-oral history The Midnight Show. The book plays with your preconceived notions of the early days of Saturday Night Live to take the story and characters in unexpected directions. Comedy becomes mystery. Entertaining as hell. bookshop.org/a/120009/979...

I just saw a piece in @thebookseller.com about this fundraiser - to protect and share a collection of over one million Black books in the UK, a labour of love by one collector, Baba Pepukayi, but a vital resource for the nation. www.gofundme.com/f/save-1-mil... Please share, and donate if you can.

My biggest gripe with Odyssey criticism is how much of it seems to be about what the film isn’t, rather than engaging with what it is… everyone gleefully repeating “there are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible” like that’s a failing of Nolan’s instead of a filmmaking choice…?

A thought I’m having after publishing this is that when people (artists) steal from each other, it comes from a place of feeling: jealousy, identification, inspiration… if someone lifts something from me I know it’s because they cared enough to do it. When AI steals it’s just programming
