You are remarkably keen to have an argument

No, it wasn't deliberate. I don't know why it was disabled. I didn't notice because I get messages but only from people I've previously messaged. I've enabled them for all people I follow now.

Everyone can DM me (if I follow them. and they're sending a nice message)

haha I didn't even realise that, because it allows messages from existing conversations!

I disagree. There are a lot of devs who primarily derive pleasure from the craft of coding itself. They're often really good coders. This has been heartbreaking for them. I feel very lucky that while I do enjoy writing code, more of my enjoyment comes from the stuff I build, not the process.

I think so, because when we had the beta launch there were several posts about some features being Cloudflare-only. That's no longer the case, but it's probably in the training data now, and comes up for a naive search that ignores the date on the posts

Yes, I have complicated feelings! In any case, it is a remarkable sign of how Astro is now mainstream at any size of org.

Same reason we use GitHub: when you're a new project you need to meet the users where they are, and for OSS that's overwhelmingly Discord.

Hello everyone please don't use this model that's almost as good as ours at 1/10th the cost and without all the guardrails that won't even let you fix an auth bug

Hey, this is seriously misleading. No EmDash features require Cloudflare. When we first launched in beta, sandboxed plugins needed Cloudflare, but they work on Node.js now too.

Matt Mullenweg Says “The Wheels Have Fallen Off” in Wide-Ranging WordPress Critique
Mullenweg spent several hours posting in WordPress Slack about a release culture producing “boring or mediocre crap,” called for an end to attacks on Automattic, and said the project had spent years…

I was however the first to mention Merkle Trees in a Cloudflare blog this week
Decentralized publishing does not mean accepting unverified code. Atproto repositories use signed Merkle Search Trees, so an inclusion proof connects the exact release record to a signed commit from the publisher’s account. EmDash can therefore verify the record independently instead of trusting the catalog’s copy. It then checks the plugin’s checksum, package name, version, requested access, and any required build provenance, and confirms that the downloaded bundle matches the signed record.

Serious answer: because they think it will inevitably be created and they believe that only they can be trusted to do it first. OpenAI was founded by people who feared Google would control AI, and then Anthropic was founded by people who thought OpenAI wasn't taking safety seriously.

I don't know if it's UK specific. I know it varies by county in any case. I already knew I could order any book held anywhere in Wiltshire, but the bit I'd missed is that I can do that long before publication and they deliver it as soon as it's released.

I think the worst part is how it takes over the whole terminal and ruins scroll back and selection. But CC and Codex are also so much better at managing worktrees and agents.

It's the recommended way to deploy Next.js sites to Cloudflare. And let's just say that if you view source of at least one of the biggest creators of new Next.js sites, you'll see it's not actually Next.js.
