Institutions offering fellowships: if you ask for three reference letters, please consider sincerely what the third letter is adding. Providing three letters is hardest on the least privileged; requesting two instead would both aid inclusion and cut by 33% the work you're asking from colleagues.

I wrote about Barrie's film in this (open access) journal article. Chesterton's later account of his involvement is more self-reproachful than might be expected of an apparently harmless escapade, because he connects it directly to the outbreak of war.
