In their planning before a lesson, but also during a lesson, good teachers make hundreds of micro-curricular decisions ...’ 021
mjburnage.bsky.social @mjburnage.bsky.social · 01/12/2024The other trap is that pedagogy appears to offer a quick fix through a tangible concrete action, whereas a curricular solution is likely to be less immediate. 030
mjburnage.bsky.social @mjburnage.bsky.social · 01/12/2024100% agree with this. I’ve long thought that the way we train teachers is the wrong way round in this respect. 010
Reposted by @mjburnage.bsky.socialKristian Shanks @historykss.bsky.social · 01/12/2024This was really good. I think it’s just superficially easier to parse people’s pedagogy than the curriculum esp for non-specialist senior leaders and that’s why you get the phenomena described here. 261

We can't meaningfully judge, analyse improve, train or support teaching without being steeped in subject-specific, curricular shaping of the thing being taught. 0278
mjburnage.bsky.social @mjburnage.bsky.social · 30/11/2024Obviously they should say ‘I’m *not* really sure’! 010
mjburnage.bsky.social @mjburnage.bsky.social · 30/11/2024Honestly I’m really sure. Perhaps: 1) ask for help from a smart HoD somewhere else 2) make sure your school is a place that a good HoD would want to work, i.e. create the conditions for them to focus on the curriculum 210
