Thanks for this. The argument somehow reminds me of when I tell Europeans I think Fahrenheit makes sense. It does, to me! It’s a system, I like the breaks. I’ve never convinced anyone, but I’ll give Vidris and Tempo a little more grace 🌈

Both pretty damning: rainbow palettes don’t work for color blind people, also a study of software-based visualizations for studying heart disease found that “perceptually appropriate color map leads to fewer diagnostic mistakes than a rainbow color map.” pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22034369/?ut...

I’d like to understand this argument better, since the rainbow palettes haven’t budged despite a concerted effort by Tufte, among others… it would make my heart glad to give them a purpose. That’s how I got over hating on Comic Sans.

It is scandalous that this program isn’t working in Seattle. There has to be an alternative to calling 911 (or complaining on Nextdoor) about unhoused people in crisis. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Seattle union says police agreement on crisis response should be tossed
The complaint gets at the heart of an ongoing frustration in Seattle City Hall: that the city’s primary solution to police violence coming out of 2020 has been delayed.
