A coworker shared this joke. I'm painfully positive that someone at Silicon Valley will eventually come up with this idea (or something really close), and a group of sycophants will push for it to become a reality.

Screenshot of what looks like a technical article online.

Daily News - Tech

Computer prodigy discovers a way to compress photos to mere bytes
13-year-old Eugene Hogwoof figured out a way to compress photos to unimaginably small sizes. A typical 20MB JPG file can now be converted to a mere 600 bytes.

[Photo of a young person working with a laptop]

The system works in two steps. First, it uses AI to generate a few words describing the picture and saving it on a file. Later, when the user wants to see the picture, the software uses AI to regenerate the image based on the description of it.

"The file is essentially a prompt, thats why its so small", said Gen AI boy.

After converting all their family photos, the boy erased the files and destroyed the print pictures, saving precious space at their home. When questioned about the software never generating the same picture, Eugene stated that our brain memories are fuzzed anyway, so the picture mimic how our brain generates images.

My app can even create photos fom moments you had no camera at the moment.

His next step is to create a new compression method for video files, as he seems eager to destroy his dad's VHS memories.

[Photo of a couple covering their faces in despair and crying, the footer of the picture is "Tears of joy: parents sob after seeing all their photos converted to the new format.]

🔥 New blog post: Dark mode toggles that expose three states (system, light, dark) seem like the best option. Until you think about user goals, that is. Before rushing to disagree, hear me out. lea.verou.me/blog/2026/da... PS: As a data point, @jakearchibald.com was converted after reading this 😅

Dark mode toggles: two states are enough • Lea Verou

Yes, the underlying model must have three states, but one is always irrelevant to the actual user goal. Users do not seek out solutions to problems they don’t currently have. A lot of the hate towards...

Nice - Both BlueSky and Mastodon have RSS feeds now. Bluesky has 2 one with links and one without, and both have images.

Do you know that you can use `image-set` to serve different background images right in CSS? Now you do and `image-set` is "widely available" since last month! 🎉 developer.mozill...

Code snippet: .box { background-image: image-set(url("https://.../small-image.jpg") 1x, url("https://.../bigger-image.jpg") 2x); }

It’s a misconception that eagerly satisfying user requests is best for users. Users are experts on problems they face, but they are not product designers. To best serve them, you need to dig deeper, and figure out what their *actual* goals are, then design a good solution for those.
