This is a photo from a sweet and funny book called The Silent Miaow by Paul Gallico with photos by Suzanne Szasz. It’s a cute manual that teaches stray cats how to train humans and get them to let you move in and take over. 1964.

Somewhat grainy black and white photo of a bright and beautiful shorthaired white and tabby kitten, sitting in a sunbeam on a wooden floor inside of a glass paneled door. It is looking curiously at the camera.

A summer scene - mother and child at the bottom of my garden. Bright green duckweed thick on the canal, and not a swallow in sight. Great Horned Owls are a sight to see! 🌿🦉📸

A great horned owl fledgling sits on top of a post at the left of the photo and on the right, an adult sits on another post. Both are looking towards the camera with 1/2 open eyes. Behind is a canal, bright green with floating duckweed and above is the darker green of willows and tules lining the canal.

Why does it always take a shock, something so horrific for the change to come? Are they so impassive, with such high self-esteem, that even storms can't bend them? I don't need a storm to bend. I'm softer than a feather. The more I live, the more sensitive I become. I bend and I hide. I die to live.

I agree. As humans, we are walking down the aisle of the ultimate corruption, where we will find no continuation. Ultimate evil leads to ultimate extermination. Now, we need to go back to number one, the empathetic companionship, before it's too late.

Author M. I. Verras @miverr.bsky.social · 16/12/2024

There aren't any friends. There is only reciprocation. At the early stages of corruption, one reciprocates the need for togetherness. Moving on to the mid stages, one reciprocates resources. After corruption has progressed, one sacrifices people's lives for their own benefit. Which side are you on?

From a negative in my collection, ca. 1940s. No further info.

Black and white photo of a medium haired tabby cat (it appears ginger to me) eating or drinking from a bowl on a light colored floor. That doesn't sound so great but it's a very well done photo. It is taken from directly in front of the cat down at its eye level and the focus is tight on the cat's face. You can see how beautiful it is, its serious expression, and every detail down to the last whisker while the body is out of focus and the background is simply a dark blur. It's almost like the cat is in a spotlight on a stage.
