Heh. Champagne tastes on a beer budget for me. Though I just like food, generally.

I keep trying to explain to people how big LA County is, but it's kinda hard to wrap your head around. Like, I can spend 2 hours on a train from downtown LA to Lancaster and *still* be in LA County. Here's one more attempt, a map from Kieran Healy kieranhealy.org

United States map showing the ten states which have larger statewide populations than Los Angeles County. The states are California (obviously), Texas, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. The other 40 states are shown in grey, and do not have a statewide population greater than the population of LA County.

#DTLA The turnout for the protest today is off the charts. Way bigger than BLM/George Floyd, and those were huge.

Hill Street in downtown Los Angeles, looking south from 4th. The street is is filled with marching protesters, for blocks and blocks and blocks.

#DTLA If you’re heading to downtown LA this afternoon, be aware that many streets will be closed. Here’s the effected streets and bus routes:

#DTLA protests - this "no callsign" aircraft is indeed a LAPD helicopter (I can see it, it's a black and white), if that wasn't obvious. #protest #LAprotest

Genuary Day 22 - gradients. This is a reworking of the programatic structure of the day 6 sketch, with a really different way to draw the stripes. I think it's better? Code here: gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-… #Genuary2025 #Genuary22 #ComputationalArt #py5

Image created with py5, based on the Genuary Day 22 prompt. A series of stripes creates a series of gradient rays, all in greens and green-blues.

I finally got back to this piece, wrote some convoluted code, and came up with this. Opinions/advice on the code are especially welcome. Code here: gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-… 2/x #Genuary6 #ComputationalArt

Image generated with py5, using the prompt for 2025 Genuary Day 6, landscape. The image is striated rays which give the general impression of a landscape.

Genuary Day 5! Isometricity. I was thinking about those op-art kinds of patterns where you can't tell if the the cubes are "up" or "down". Code here: gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-… #Genuary #Genuary5 #Genuary2025 #py5 #ComputationalArt

A sketch created with py5 for the Genuary 2025 event, day 5. The image is a grid of isometric cubes in cool colors.

Genuary Day 4, aka the Louise Nevelson challenge. A little worried about the image quality on this one, so do take a peek at the original image if you can. Code here: gitlab.com/mitten-la/py5-sketches/-… #Genuary #2025Genuary #Genuary4 #ComputationalArt #py5
