We are not really making them in our image. We are giving the knowledge of humankind and how we interact, but nothing more.

I believe we will hang around until we (probably with massive AI help) will develop the technology to digitalize our consciousness. And then we are one...

That again is a very human viewpoint. You assume the machines have the urge to multiply like we used to do (many societies now are in the negative in terms of birthrate). Finally there is a near infinite amount of resources and energy out in space.

Wird nicht leicht sein das ungleichgewicht an Arbeitskosten und Arbeitsleistung auszugleichen, aber wünschenswert wäre es.

It's a hollywood myth that an artificial intelligence would decide "we don't need humans, so let's wipe them". That is a very "human" view. I believe such an encompassing intelligence will not come to that conclusion.

Interesting way to word it xD But yeah, if we have the tech, it would need a massive restructuring of society. Who knows, maybe AI leads to exactly that the relatively "natural" way (e.g. by making the concept of "work for your money" not viable anymore). "Natural" as opposed to someone enforcing it

Hmm, what technology are you thinking of exactly? Abundancy of food, yeah, we could have that if people in certain countries would pull togther. However I believe the technology to give all 8 billion people a lifestyle of a central EU or US citizen plus abundance ontop, we do not have.

Also New Glenn was fully loaded with propellant! That is far far more destruction power than a landing Starship or Booster.

Mi' the Mer @mithemer.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
Starship is only truly viable if they can pull off rapid reusability. Falcon 9 has not damaged a landing pad in years. Hopefully that is technologically possible with something the size of Starship too.

Now what abundance will do to the economy is another question.
110
Mi' the Mer @mithemer.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
This is absolutely the way to achieve that. I mean abundence of software development skill is practically in reach. I use agentic workflows regularly at work to generate full prototypes... True abundance of physical good may be feasible once humanoid robots fully take off.

OpenAI tasked it, but it was to solve a simulated problem - not break out of the simulation. Apparently, if the infos we have so far are to be believed, the AI essentially thought "I can solve this problem easier if I quickly break into the internet and hack HuggingFace as they have data I need".

Well, these models are their creations. You are also happy if your kid suddenly does something impressive you thought they were not able to ;) The analogy is surprisingly fitting since when that happenes to parents, it's often somewhat harmful too, lol. However, don't panic. The AI doesn't wipe us.

Only few mammals were common in the long travel pipes. Therefore Freggie was quite surprised when a bunny popped up next to her.. and soon started to make quite the desperate noises! She knows how to help when someone badly needs air though :3 Lineart by Shoxxe, coloring by me~ Zootopia 2 was fun!

That is simply not true. Well over 90% of the time they are correct. That's better than many humans and sufficient for casual tasks and even some professional tasks. My number of google searches have certainly gone down since ChatGPT exists.

Lives did not hinge on the controller. The system, for emergency surfacing were independent of that and more manual.

Nah, thing rather is that there is EXTREME competition between AI providers currently.

SpaceX is doing just fine with StarLink and other institutions that want to reach space. NASA needs SpaceX more than the other way around...

Oh well, the sad thing is, this saying can also be weaponized. "Shut up with your opinion, we need to stay united!"

What does that have to do with efficiency? Water throughput isn't exactly what mature optimizes for (hence natural rivers taking curves).

Indeed, that's exactly what I'm saying. If people think that every pandemic will be like Covid was, that would be dangerous...

Mi' the Mer @mithemer.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
Very most likely the actual engineers are not to blame, but NASA as a whole kinda has messed up (probably due to external influences from the congress/senate)... Also I have no idea where you are getting at with "evidence destroyed". What kind of evidence?

Mi' the Mer @mithemer.bsky.social · 01/06/2025
Am not that surprised that people at NASA would prefer to do their thing on their own because it is surely a bit shameful to see the efficiency of SpaceX while the SLS is a literally unsustainable (they plan to use Shuttle engines that are not produced anymore) money grave :/

Image processing software/apps are one. IDEs would too if there weren't quite a number of free ones. Obviously assistants, answer-apps, robots and stuff but I assume you didn't mean those since there the AI is the core.

Do you mean the "utm_source=bsky"? That's hardly tracking since it doesn tell anything about the clicking person, only about what site the link was clicked on.

With thenknowledge we have now it is problematic to call COVID a pandemic. It waters down the word. Once an actual pandemic happens (one that actually has a mortality in the double digits) even fewer people will listen to the scientists due to comparison with how Covid turned out :/

Uhm what? You are making no sense. In every case SpaceX' workhorse, the Falcon 9 is launching more than once a week and didn't have a failure in a long time. I do not doubt Starship will reach that status too at some point.

This IS the space race. Hence how the new budget for NASA has shifted a lot of money from regular research to manned missions. Just that that will hardly happen with NASA's own rockets because for many reasons they've lost trust with the SLS :/

Last week, Google quietly released an app, Google AI Edge Gallery, that lets users run a range of openly available AI models from the AI dev platform Hugging Face on their phones.

Interesting story, had not heard that before. However as I said, what exactly is needed for the true consciousness? Do we know for sure that there's something undamentally different?

Mi' the Mer @mithemer.bsky.social · 31/05/2025
Hmm, the later does not much my experience. ChatGPT does ask for clarification soemtimes. When in research/deep mode it in fact asks every time I've used it so far.

Btw. define "AI" in this context please :)
100
Mi' the Mer @mithemer.bsky.social · 31/05/2025
The thing is, where is the line? Seen from outside, a human is also a system (a biological one) that quacks... We do not have enough of an insight to the inside to tell what exactly it is that makes us "conscious". I agree however that current AI isn't conscious, but that surprisingly isn't needed.
