…about that. They are just saying that they find her annoying. If someone was to say that Charlie is a poorly written protagonist and that’s why she’s annoying, then you could argue against that because they aren’t claiming that there’s is an actual issue with her writing.

An example of this would be if someone was to say “I think Charlie Morningstar is annoying and don’t really like her” that is just an opinion someone has and even if it differs from yours, you don’t have to comment saying stuff like “you don’t understand her” they aren’t talking…

However, if someone were to say that they think a certain character is written poorly and THAT is why they don’t like them, this would be an effective use of the ”complex character“ argument. Because someone is claiming there is an issue with the writing that is making them not likable.

I feel like people need to learn that there is in fact a difference between saying that they simply don’t like a specific character in media than claiming that there’s bad writing and THAT is the reason why they don’t like them.
