"So thanks for that, you light-blasted arsehole," He wraps up with flipping his finger at the night.

Then Aldiirn sighs, brows knotted with worry. "But, please..."

"...find it within your vile heart to protect Zahne under your cloak of night," Aldiirn prays on behalf of his mind-controlled friend. Even where Zahne sleeps in the heart of the Absolute's cult, Vhaeraun is able to slip in an tuck Zahne in under the stars of his cloak.

Astarion takes the bottle with a sharp smile of his own. "You're too generous, sweetling."

"Not my first pick but it will be useful," Astarion ponders to himself while looking the elixir over, "Just how does he always know what to give?"

Cut to feeding time in Astarion's tent, Astarion's face is in Aldiirn's neck while Aldiirn counts all the junk hoarded around them. "Plenty of arrows, 3 lightning 7 thunder 2 fire... oils, 5 basic 1 wym 6 drow 2 diminuation 1 sharpness -- no, 3 sharpess... elixirs..."

Cough, cough! Aldiirn stumbles out of his tent, forage in one hand, hook horror in the other, and smoke streaming out behind him. His tent is so utterly overgrown with fungi that it's less a shelter and more a portable pocket of Underdark!

Aldiirn turns into the freaking Shamwow guy when he flirts, upselling the other person more than the gifts haha. He doesn't like flirting openly or public displays so it's usually in some cheeky manner he could deny if needed. #tavqotd

Aldiirn doesn't miss a beat insisting the cheese was worthwhile. “You saw that the camp was missing certain supplies and went out of your way to fill that gap. Restocking our cheese meant a lot to me personally since my food options are more limited that most. It's fine if it was a one-off, but so long as you contribute you'll get something equitable in return.”

Astarion wishes Aldiirn was still just upselling him, but that smile is dreadfully honest.

Aldiirn gestures back to the pack. “These consumables haven't seen much use, but as our ranged specialist I think you'll be able to make the most of them. Try the Oil of Diminuation with one of your Arrows of Many Targets!”

“I see…!” Astarion holds the oil up, now piecing together its full potential. “And I was ready to write it off as a cheap trick.”

“Oh!” Aldiirn acts like he suddenly remembers something, “I have a special introductory bonus, something from me to you…”

Astarion swears he caught Aldiirn blush for a moment.

Aldiirn presents a new item, “A high quality sewing kit from the finest textile drow merchant clan!” He opens the spider-web shaped clamshell, revealing ornate metal tools and spools of thread held by strings of the web embroidery. “These tools are guaranteed to feel weightless in the skilled hands of an experienced tailor such as yourself, and remain forever as sharp as your fangs.”

Astarion barely has time to absorb the delicate detailing before Aldiirn is bringing out another item.

“And to go with it–”

“A spool of spidersilk thread that can invisibly mend any textile stronger than it was before!” Aldiirn holds the greyish, translucent spool in one hand while plucking the end away with the other, unspooling a little, and casting Dancing Lights in a practiced motion. The near-invisible thread lights up, all the way back to the entire spool! “Or pair with a light to dazzle and delight! I'm sure someone with your fine eye for embellishment can find some clever uses.”

Astarion takes the rewound spool. Oh yes, he can already think of the possibilities. He shoots Aldiirn a wry grin, “These are very fine materials indeed… and fine praise. While I'm not above soaking it up, I can't shake the feeling I'm being upsold to.”

“You got me!” Aldiirn folds with the cutest little laugh.

But then all the fun and smiles of the sales pitch are quickly replaced with complete seriousness. Aldiirn continues, “I want to stress everything is yours to keep and so with as you will, no matter how you respond. I have a plan that may strike a sensitive chord for you. I'd like your input before proceeding.”

The change in mood is unnerving, but at least the language will be plain. “Well then. Let's hear how bad it is.”

Aldiirn's bright customer service smile is replaced with a cautious look upwards at his much larger companion. "It wouldn't be for long, only to buy time to find a permanent fix to your engine."

"Zariel will be on my ass as soon as I step one foot into Avernus!" Karlach's face twist in as much rage as fear. "I won't be looking over my shoulder every day not knowing if I get to go home the next!"

Aldiirn pipes up, "There are ways to avoid detection, the alternative is--"

Karlach cuts Aldiirn off again before he can say the damning word, but this time reaching out with softness. "I get it, Porter, you don't want to lose anyone else. But let me enjoy this, I can hold people again, thanks to you! Maybe I can even knock some sense into that feisty little friend of yours. Sound good?"

"...Sounds good," he answers after a moment.

Karlach walks away, leaving Aldiirn to ponder with his log book. She hasn't explicitly cancelled the order to fix her engine, just added a new condition...

"Contact Beggar's Brew for smiths and artificers in Baldur's Gate," Aldiirn scrawls into his log, if he can find a fix in time without bothering Karlach about it, maybe she can be saved after all.

Finished season 1 of Silo, great series, I love how lived in and community driven the Silo is for being so far post-apoc. IMO episode 1 was the weakest, as I was watching it I was like can we have less conspiracy and more porters haha. I was just fascinated and wanted to learn about the world!

I choose Acolyte as Aldiirn's background without much thought... I think Guild Artisan suits him better now but I've stuck with Acolyte through his reverence of Vhaeraun. Maybe it helps that Vhaeraun doesn't have a typical church or followers haha. #tavqotd

Aldiirn says, "Looks like that's the area beyond the front door. There must be a way to unlock it from the unside, if we could get to it..."

Wyll muses, "Question is how, that is quite the difficult drop!"

Astarion, the vampire spawn, confidently struts over to the hole, one foot poised over the edge. "A climb like this is hardly a trifle for someone such as myself. I assumed a reknown monster hunter would know--"

"--even a vampire spawn can walk on walls and -" Astarion's words are cut off as he plummets down.

Astarion on all fours on the ground, gritting his teeth through pain and humiliation. The others are seen through the hole above, scattering to find another way to get to Astarion, except...

Wyll takes the moment to sass the fallen vampire, "So vampire spawn always land on all fours, like a cat! Thank you Astarion, I'll add that to my monster manual!"

Astarion mutters, "I'll give you more to add as soon as my tadpole lets me regenerate the cartilage in my godsdamned knees..."
