Dolly Parton told Miley Cyrus that if she wanted something to be a big deal, she had to decide it was a big deal and portray it as a big deal. No one would do that for her. I'm hosting the World Premiere of my debut feature and it's a big deal. And I thank Dolly for that advice.

Saw #TheChristophers at the Fine Arts downtown. Enjoyed it. Acting excellence of course. I'm made at Soderbergh for his commentary on AI, but I can't be mad at the film. Would watch again.

We prepare for a storm after a storm that destroyed so much of our town. People are killed in the street by the government. We are somehow still making soup and art and driving our children places. We didn't really understand it could be like this.

Sitting in so many strange liminal feeling spaces: waiting for the date of my cast and crew screening to launch the social media and release the trailer for my debut feature, a kid in college, a kid applying to colleges, working gigs for extra $, waiting... waiting.

They are hand picked by the Heritage Foundation to be his cronies and to normalize dictatorship. Several of them are felons - all of them are extremely rich. You think you're looking at foolish sycophants, but they know exactly what they are doing - systematically changing the system of government.

I don’t need a self driving car. I need a vehicle that runs between major areas and can transport large numbers of people at once to reduce environmental impact…wait it’s a train. I’m describing trains. Build more goddamned TRAINS, America.

I'm gonna be honest. I'm okay with falling behind if I get to keep the tangible reality of the world. I'm regressing, in fact. Buying up physical media and so on. I want to be in the world. Even if humanity just keeps going on without me.

The thing is, in other dictatorships and authoritarian countries, the People get something in return: healthcare, infrastructure, education, clean air and water - the list continues and depends on the place, but the USA is the only place where the potential leader is ONLY taking everything.

We could have high speed rail, UBI, single payer healthcare, and SNAP benefits for everyone along with trolley systems in all our small cities but instead they're dumping more money into ICE and the military. Call your reps.

Listening to NPR reporters trying to keep their normal news voices and talk about things as if they're just saying normal stuff is starting to feel insane.

Missy Bell @missybell-arts.bsky.social · 01/04/2025

Plenty of terrible things are happening. You do not need to make things up. Also, people talking about things are not the same as them happening. Focus on what is happening and fight that stuff - forget the other stuff. We are here. Now.

When I was a high school teacher I remember a kid forged HER mom's signature on a friend's permission slip for field trip and I told them both I was turning them in to admin b/c not only did they lie, they also insulted my intelligence by thinking I would buy it. No idea why I'd be thinking of that.

My editor on Erased the other day: "Tristan broke me today. 'This is my kid, I send him a check every month,' has me crying right now. Way to wreck me, bro. ...Snotty tears right now."

A young man looks emphatically and yells at a man who stands in front of him facing away from the camera. The young man has dark hair, big hazel eyes, and is wearing a chain around his neck, a black t-shirt, and black and grey plaid overshirt.
