there’s distinct political (or political-adjacent) themes with every new wave of horror & in every genre. Hell, even like the slashers of 80s had messaging about what happens to teens who “sleep around” - & guess when abstinence education became the norm? 1981!

like in recent years we’ve gotten a lot of religious horror (I’d argue as a direct result of people leaving the church &/or having complicated relationships with religion). Or tech-gone-rogue horror that reflects the dangers of AI + ~the hubris of man~.
