they know. they know! no sugarcoating, even! so fucking tell them!!

one question of the survey, with 9 checkbox options:

What concerns, if any, do you have about AI-assisted manga translations? (Select all that apply.)
*
1. Lower overall quality
2. Loss of respect for readers
3. Loss of respect for creators
4. Character personalities changing
5. Cultural references being mistranslated
6. Less work for human translators
7. Ethical concerns
8. Legal concerns
Other: (I typed in: environmental concerns, worse than a fresh human translation)

Mike McFarland was so tremendously talented and passionate about his work. If he was directing, you knew you were getting a quality English dub. Most importantly, he was a beloved friend to so many of his peers. I appreciate how generous and giving he was to our little podcast. You will be missed.

It’s very silly and fun but also a fantastic ode to collective liberation and tolerance + love for all. While also being patently ridiculous in the best way. I truly didn’t expect it to be so explicitly anti-imperialism and pro-queer when I first started, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I feel this so much. It irks me when people imply that adapting something to another medium other than comics somehow elevates or validates it. The comic IS the best possible version of that story. The comic is what the artist created.

Really enjoy this review of the new mario movie and those who fall behind the "Well it's for kids" line too often. www.thewrap.com/creative-con...

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is for children. Nobody thinks otherwise, so if anyone was already typing “What did you expect, ‘Citizen Kane?’” then I can stop you right there. Children can enjoy slop — I should know, I grew up on dreck like “The Care Bears Movie” and “GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords” — but that doesn’t mean kids wouldn’t also appreciate a proper meal. Nobody complains when a kids movie is great. When a kids movie has interesting characters and an involving plot and a theme worth exploring, nobody says the makers of “KPop Demon Hunters” screwed up and should have made it worse. We know kids like good movies. So making them bad is a choice, not a necessity.

What I find is that those who talk about a "manga style" are those whose experience with manga is highly limited. They know the big hits... the shonen and shojo superstars. Are you influenced by a specific artist? Excellent. Then say that instead of "manga style." Give artists identity.

I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.
