Wait until they learn about the camera obscura and camera lucida that even allow you to trace from real life references. Camera obscura in particular is such an old tool, like hundreds of years. There's a big difference between actual art theft and skillful tracing or use of references.

Points of tension: Talib is supposed to be settling into proper adult life, and the age gap here is squinty even by elf standards (in humans, it'd be like 35 and 21) Kouto's keeping a secret about his past, involving another person. Melachi's career goals were delayed by a family emergency.

Talib/Kouto is the main relationship plot, because Talib is demiromantic and Melachi is avoiding committed relationships until she's finished her degree. Because Talib is ace, he and Kouto have to navigate their very different sexual desires. Talib is also like 20+ years older than Kouto.

Melachi is a medical student, but she's also got an art hobby, so she and Talib meet in one of the art clubs on campus and do collaborative glass and metal projects. Melachi also meets Kouto at a party and they hook up and then become friends w/benefits.

It's set in a university in my fantasy world. Kouto is a student doing a nude art model job on the side. They meet Talib because he's in a sculpture class Kouto models for, but he needs extra sessions outside of class because he's half blind. They talk to avoid awkward silence, and become friends.

I think my amphibious goblins and their non sapient cousin species, a giant olm-like wyrm, are one of the best unique ideas I've had. Making the orcs and gnomes closely related was also a very fun choice. Also my centaurs! They are chimeric twin chalicothere people and they are massive.

Humans are extinct in the world I've built. They have left behind many ruins and artifacts, which non human archaeologists are fascinated by! Also the dwarves are actually a hominid species, so they're technically the humans of this world. And some human DNA was used to create the quetzalin.

Elvish architecture always incorporates whole living trees. While they no longer spend as much time in the forest canopies as their ancestors did, they still prefer to live in the trees and they use botanical singers to shape that living wood into homes and other buildings.

The quetzalin, because they were created from scratch rather than having a deity coax them through evolution towards a specific goal. Their species has only existed for about 3000 years at best. They're quite the anomaly.

There are pinniped merfolk, insectoid pixies, and also chalicothere centaurs. The orcs and gnomes also have four-digit hands and feet like cloven hooves, as well as porcine snouts. Most of my people are bipedal and do have distinct hands and feet.
