Excited about AI? Me neither It's a useful tool in some cases, but at what cost to humans and society?
From the Paul Krugman substack:
"One More Reason Americans Hate Al: It Does Nothing for Them
...Trillions of dollars in spending, higher interest rates, hardly any jobs"

Your money paid for this propaganda bull crap Editorial today sums it up. Do you think it is a Public Service Announcement (PSA), or a Political Ad? Are you happy your tax money is paying for this? ...the article says more than $430,000 has been spent on this campaign already...
Op-Ed seen in Seattle Times, re-run from the Los Angeles Times today written by Lorraine Ali:

"A White House official reportedly said that the PSAs 'are clearly not political' and noted that 'the President is not on the ballot and the ads
don't have a call to action.'

Trump has repeatedly told his base to vote like he was on the ballot.

With propaganda like this coming out of the White House, communism is
hardly the biggest threat facing the country.

Lorraine Ali is news and culture critic of the Los Angeles Times."

This is the vision of Middle Eastern strategy from kegsbreath and Agent Orange (not saying US should stay in Iraq, but just pointing out there's no coherent strategy - withdrawing from Iraq when you need to keep pressure on Iran seems short-sighted)

'We had them under view for a long time, and we got them.' The US president is a lying tosspot. The plot was foiled by an insomniac farmer, who spotted the men and reported them to Gloucestershire police.

In the op-Ed “Humanity Has Avoided Apocalypse Before” this paragraph seems so obvious I struggle to understand why we are even talking about (of course it comes down to $ and aspirations of power.) Self-regulation is not an option.
Op-ed “Humanity Has Avoided Apocalypse Before. Let’s Do It Again.” in NYTimes today:
“The overriding idea behind A.I. policy must be that the companies building the technology cannot be left to police themselves, The government regulates every other industry that makes powerful products that bring large benefits and risks. The small circle of people who stand to profit the most from it cannot be allowed to make the rules.”

Headline in the NYTimes today:
"Kennedy Assures Vaccine Skeptics That They Have a Friend at the
White House' The health secretary spoke at a conference featuring misinformation about vaccines, including a claim that the success
of the polio vaccines was a 'fraud.'"
This ignorance is incredibly dangerous and needs to be stopped

We Americans didn't learn our lesson. Trickle-down is a myth. Those tax cuts the GOP passed are putting Medicare and Social Security at risk, and going to cost future Americans a lot of money. We need to Tax the Rich (not the other way around)
From article "Soaring bond yields, gaping deficits and towering debts: what could go wrong?" in Economist dated September 16th:
"The best way out of a hole is, of course, to stop digging-ie, borrow less. Alas, politicians are in a digging mood. In America, Donald Trump's mammoth tax-and-spending law of 2025 made most of his earlier tax cuts permanent and added new breaks, increasing the
deficit by trillions of dollars over the next decade...."

First paragraph of "The World Economy is Becoming Wary of the U.S." by Alan Rappeport in the NYTimes today:
"Global investors are balking at U.S. bonds. Talk of the dollar's dwindling power is getting louder. Foreign governments are hauling their gold out of American vaults."

The current administration is willing to throw out millions of votes when voter fraud occurs at a rate of... --> 0.00004% <--
From APNews article "Trump slams the Supreme Court for rejecting his push to restrict mail ballots" (re-run in Seattle Times today):
"Trump has opposed mail voting and falsely blamed it for his 2020 election loss. A report by the Brookings Institution published in 2025 found that mail voting fraud occurred in only about four cases out of every 10 million mail ballots cast."

Not too surprising. (In fact, maybe even necessary?) But imagine if those weapons were AI controlled…
From “The Dealbook” newsletter today, published by Andrew Ross Sorkin of the NYTimes:
“QUOTE OF THE DAY”…
"The United States has on-orbit space control weapons capable of defending the Joint Force against hostile adversary action."
“Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, in the first public acknowledgment that the U.S. has stationed weapons in space. The statement drew consternation from Beijing: ‘We urge the U.S. side to stop expanding its military force and preparing for war in outer space,’ Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, said at a regular news briefing today.”
