Went and watched the 4k remaster of Ghost in the Shell (1995) last night for the nostalgia. Classic. Now I'm watching the remake today, and I think it's even better than the OG. It fills out the story more, and the comedy actually hits. Both are great on their own.

I know. I have it too. But observation is still something important to do even without aphantasia. The brain still warps our memories of things and having visual references is what helps give our work believability.

Coming out of my hole to remind people that in order for art to reflect life, you have to actually go and do that "life" thing first. Art created in isolation can be okay, but it's better when it's actually inspired from observation. AKA: Better art is created through actually touching grass.

A lot of "visual imagination" actually comes from making a practice of actually observing the world around you. Need to draw a party scene? Go to a party. Want to create a believable bus stop? Go visit a bus stop. Art is just creation through observation.

Upsides of the bus: Cheap. Downsides of the bus: Unreliable at least in my town; takes three hours to get where I need to get; being stuck at the stop where I get asked intrusive personal questions at 8 in the morning.

I am one hundred percent on board with stopping the "Kids these days." thing. I might do the occasional "Back in my day" or good naturedly tease some of my younger friends, but I genuinely think the younger crowd is awesome. We're also kind of all in the same bag as they are now becoming adults.

It *LOOKS* like, judging on the background, it's from the Cleveland Museum of Art. There's a very well lit open room full of early military stuff. So ornate swords and armor and the like. But I'm also not 100% positive on that as there are many museums with impressive armories.

Oh sure. Doing an illustration for an IP that already exists is easy and I can envision the end result and work fast. But the second I have to do a complicated made up scene, my brain is on holiday and it takes me nearly two months just to get the values down. FML.

I think it's time for a little style pivot. Lately I've been exploring Atsushi Nishigori specifically in the "Panty and Stocking" side of things (I suck at sharing my experiments) But what if I added some Genndy Tartakovsky into it too? I think those are two styles that could mesh well.
