This isn’t one of my #SkyBuys, because the bookseller hand-sold it to me when she saw what else I was buying. Looks pretty interesting! A Black Queer History of the US, by @crileysnorton and Darius Bost. #BookSky

More #SkyBuys. I had read these books in e-book, but found out from @aribaranwrites.bsky.social that they were being released in pbk. Snatched up Game Misconduct and Home Ice Advantage immediately. I esp loved the romance between two guys in their 40s and the delightful elder Jewish MIL. 📚💙

I’ve decided I’m going to start a hashtag for the books I’ve purchased because I found out about them here on Bluesky. It’s #SkyBuys First up: @adibkhorram.bsky.social’s I’ll Have What He’s Having, an m/m romance with 30something characters #BookSky

Legitimately burst out laughing that the America.gov image to accompany the question “How do I replace my Social Security card?” is a senior citizen, walking on the beach, apparently using a metal detector. Because the association I want to evoke is definitely an elder scrounging for change 😮

And of course some corn muffins to go with.
A metal tray showing 10 corn muffins with walnuts on top. The recipe makes 12, but I used Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt and so the batter didn’t stretch.

It has been raining for approximately 1,972 hours, or at least that’s what it feels like. So it’s a good night to make a big pot of chicken tortilla soup.

Good job, Past Me! Having homemade soup in the freezer for the first genuinely chilly evening of fall, after a long day of travel, is a treat.

I found a blatantly fake book on Amazon and wrote a 1-star review. Amazon rejected it: We couldn't post your review because it doesn't meet our guidelines for one or more of these reasons: Profanity Harassment Hate speech Sexual content Illegal activity Private information

The difference is NOT because this small suburb suddenly stopped having neighborhood announcements to share. This photo was taken on the same day, at the family-owned independent grocery store a block away. As you see, THIS bulletin board is overflowing with announcements.

The first photo shows a bulletin board in a bank lobby that is devoid of anything except for company advertisements. In 2010, this was filled with thumb-tacked business cards & neighborhood announcements. That was 3 buyouts ago (Abington Bank->Susquehanna Bank->BB&T-> Truist) 2/3

I feel unaccountably gleeful that AI companies are already having to advertise on the basis of how bad AI is.

Weirdly, the artist doesn’t appear to have an Instagram or a website. I only found a freelancer site where he seems to be selling his graphic design services, but even that is minimal and frankly kind of sketchy (the site, not the artist).

It’s not art in the sense of something intentionally created as such (or at least I don’t think so), but this 3,000-year-old brick from Egypt, now in a Berlin museum, makes me feel so connected to this long-ago human. The instinct to leave our mark is so strong!

Nielsen sent me a dollar so that I would agree to become one of their ratings households. Joke’s on them; I have watched a grand total of six hours of television in this house in the last three years. 🤣 (#HeatedRivalry, if you’re curious.)

I have been baking for 45 years, and I have never before owned a cookie scoop. I regret to announce that spending $25 on a purpose-built tool has been genuinely life-changing. I try not to own kitchen gadgets that can’t serve many different purposes. Guess this is going to be an exception.

Agree completely. And we also need some other folks working on off-line education of journalists. I cannot believe how many reporters still don’t even understand very basic things like “leaving is the most dangerous moment in a relationship,” and “choking/strangling as a lethality risk.”
