I finally have a name for a feeling/need I couldn't place: a mix of nostalgia for lost futures + unease of outsourcing our thinking + the strange state of knowledge work + the fear that AI will actually work excellently. I call it Zettelkasten Hauntology. More in my new letter:

The Zettelkasten Hauntology
I'm writing a letter after more than two months. Mainly because too much work happened, all wrapped and surrounded by hideous heatwaves and longing for rain. This album makes for a great reminder of...

Been drawing new sketches for the the Mirage Mir story: they help me write the new chapter and key scene/s. Just added some of the first new ones to the book here: www.miragemir.com/book/

New Mirage Mir Letter is out: notes & photos from the crossing of the Julian Alps, under my own power, over a mountain pass into the Mediterranean | Exploring the story as a "dashboard" for a memory system, and why practice is becoming part of the human–AI interface 🌊

Approaching the sea at the speed of a horse
Hope you are well, my dear reader. This letter is based on notes recorded and pictures taken during a bicycle journey from the Italian mountain town of Tarvisio to the seaside city of Rovinj, Croatia....

game narrative people like to talk about how worldbuilding isn’t storytelling. i agree; in fact i think worldbuilding is actually its own emerging creative practice, with its own virtuosos & masterpieces; it overlaps with storytelling but often feels to me more like architecture, hypertext, collage

A report & a letter from the best kind of office I have known in recent years: a route along a river that I can ride by bike, alone, while working on an idea/a text, with a book on hand to dip into every now and then

Some stories are easier to write while moving against the current
By the end of March, I promised myself to write and publish the next chapter of the Mirage Mir story. So I went to the best kind of office I have known in recent years: a route along a river that I c...

Vibe coding broke people's brains because they had a bad understanding of the software design process. The pop culture model goes something like this: start out with a sketch and then render that same idea in progressively finer detail. So when tools could "skip" to high detail, people went WOW.

I’ve been building an imaginary world as external memory for yrs. Suddenly it reads like a new HCI prototype: an interface where practice is explicit. Notes train self-formulation, the world provides cues for retrieval, story acts as a dashboard. A “second brain” with an aesthetic and a discipline.

I asked Opus 4.6 in Claude Code to build me Borges's Library of Babel. An hour later it delivered this. The AI implemented a Feistel cipher so each possible book has a single real location, you can search for text across the Library & find the book. Enter it: library-of-babel-3d.netlify.app

If AI is so good, why bother? How can you justify writing or, drawing in the age where AI gets better every week? Because you should create to improve yourself, the quality of your perspective, and thus your contribution to your loved ones, to your culture. Create like nobody’s watching.

Because despite everything, you were still following your sense of wonder — dedication to the geometry of thought, the ecology of attention
It feels mostly awful to go online these days + AI is getting better and scarier. But I'm optimistic. Everywhere I look I can see people joining a movement protecting and choosing human made art and ...

"technology and its derived tools should serve people in a way that enhances their freedom, creativity, independence, and will. The distillation of those principles on the web (...) points luminously to one answer to the question of how the Internet can best serve humans: it’s personal websites."
