Basset hound sketch, in green ballpoint -3564 🎨 #dogs #art

A green ballpoint sketch of a Basset hound, viewed from the side and facing to the left of the image. The tail is held high, the right forepaw is raised, and the head is turned a little to look at the viewer. Also, the body is extended out so overall it's about three times the length it should be

God, another reason for avoiding the movies is the horrible hearsay I've heard of how they try and make Lolitla actually sexualized or flirtatious in any way.

Makes me want to read more Nabokov, since I only read Pnin in college (which was good but no Lolita) and Lolita. Glad I've never seen a second of any of the Lolita movies since so much of the book's appeal is the gorgeous prose which underpins the whole premise of a charasmatic monster.

He's utterly unashamed of how unsympathetic he is for Charlotte though when he fantasizes murdering her in the lake earlier but decides it's too inconvenient. He's totally self-aggrandizing, but in respect to her she's too unimportant to him to do so compared to justifying his pedophilia.

mindsnot.bsky.social @mindsnot.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

I feel it's about how he feels above and superior to conventional social mores and ethics because he has such lavish justifications for his horrible obsessions. I'm not saying I'm/you're right (we both agree that's a trivial point to prove) but I like both our intrepretations for different reasons

I totally get that HH could have fabricated Quilty since his whole narrative motive is vanity and self-indulgence.

010

mindsnot.bsky.social @mindsnot.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

I always thought Charlotte's death was an absurd, darkly comedic coincidence, but you have a really good point! I haven't read it in years tbh

The books are perfectly FINE for children if they lack any other passably good YA fiction. The movies are very well made and have great acting, effects, and the John Williams score. I can't wait for the tv show to be dud since it'll try and "be its own thing" while still aping the movies.

Artwork of Zidane, Vivi, and Steiner from FF9 on a rooftop overlooking Alexandria. Zidane shields his eyes from the sun to look over at the castle while Vivi holds onto his shoulder with one hand and his own hat with the other. Steiner is trying to climb up the side of the building while shaking his fist at Steiner. Above them, the Prima Vista flies overhead.

One last also: if these guys truly wanted a hardcore, no-mercy, grimmest of grimdark ttrpg they'd play Mork Borg or such. But Mork Borg doesn't indulge their heroic power fantasties they want from dnd, let alone their fantasies of valorized monster killing.

010

mindsnot.bsky.social @mindsnot.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

Also, while I'm in a ranty mood, this project isn't even like some brave renegade of what it's promising. Shadowdark already did it, if not games like DCC too. This thing is just like more overtly puerile and flaunting its identity as gamergate bait.

120

mindsnot.bsky.social @mindsnot.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

It's so weird to see macho toxic masculinity applied to like the dorkiest hobbies. I'm sorry, but just because you're playing a ruthless permadeth system doesn't make you any manlier than the theater kids RPing their OCs. We're all playing fantasy make-believe.

120

mindsnot.bsky.social @mindsnot.bsky.social · 16/07/2026

God, I just thought this looked dumb and didn't bother to look into it, but I didn't realize how cringe it truly was. Pretty lame since most dudes this age I follow are actually cool about dnd and ttrpgs and not reactionary gamergate types like this.

My Kalosian Druddigon concept before we realized PLZA wouldn't be creating Kalosian regional forms. Disney's Gargoyles was an inspiration of course.

This energetic Pokémon bursts out from its statue form when the sun sets, ready to take on any foe. Gangs of Druddigon prowl around at night, scavenging in ancient castles, caverns, and unfortunately, trash cans.

Though it lies perfectly still, its eyes and nostrils pulse with an ever increasing draconic aura. It does not particularly like the coldest winder months. Even in this petrified form, it appears to shiver.

Fairy Queen Illustration for the upcoming book "The King of Nobody" by Brandon D. R. Reynoso

The artwork depicts the fairy queen in emerald and malachite armor with the wings of a monarch butterfly. She holds a white sword with levitating elements and gemstones. A crown of emerald diamonds floats above her blonde hair. The fairy is surrounded by fantastical creatures and a gothic frame around the edges of the image.

some loose designs for a MidZel piece i've been chipping away at! turns out it's way easier to do designs ahead of time instead of brute forcing it in the moment 🥲

Rough sketch of designs for Zelda and Twili Midna, from Twilight princess. Zelda is dressed in ceremonial armour over a white and gold overdress, and mauve kirtle. Midna is dressed in an overdress and kirtle in black, silver, and teal, and wears a pointed black-veiled hennin. Both outfits are based heavily on Burgundian fashion of the 1400s.
