Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 16hThese kinds of psychology experiments are my pet peeve and not just the ones about AI. Expose a group of people to something for 15 minutes, then measure something artificial in the next 15 minutes, and then use these results to make a headline about the long-term effects of that something. 000
Reposted by MimrockWilliam B. Fuckley @opinionhaver.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I think pro or anti AI is a basically meaningless distinction because it's a lot of different things, sometimes it's a useful, potentially transformative tool and sometimes it's social trust atomizer and reality melting machine. but I've definitely become more anti 'this type of guy' 41258
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Also wrote the whole post with AI. Not edited, the whole thing is fully generated. I know there is a movement against this kind of "gotcha" but I just can't get my head around this kind of communication. "Claude please write me a post about these discoveries. Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 04/10/2026There is no way she thinks there is a secret calculator in ChatGPT. There is no way she thinks that LLMs has absolutely no uses in a chat-like interface. It's just her grift now that buys her attention and earns her money. She is like Ed Zitron. Ed knows it too. 140
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 04/10/2026She knows it. Just look back on her bsky TL. It's all about AI. Her most distinctive word here is "ai" (she uses 8.7x more than the average English bluesky account). She can't talk about anything else, because her followers doesn't care about anything else. 141

Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 03/10/2026You are using a service built by libertarians on the core idea that information is free. It's built in a way that everything you write here is trivial to download and analyze. It's actually a rare thing nowadays, because most web services try to make scraping harder, not easier. 130
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I'm not that familiar with Hassabis' works. Is he that skeptic of LLMs? 010
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Hanlon's razor does not explain ignoring OpenSSH. This is not an accident and they did not overlook it. At some point, they deliberately decided that they are better off without OpenSSH being able to secure itself with Mythos. 0254
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I just realized the quoted tweet is not the 4o one that I remembered, but exactly the open reproduction. She did not engage. 160
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Why doesn't she try to reproduce it with an open model? Or at least ask if someone did something like that? I think she just got into a corner and had to deflect the claim somehow and she uses the (real) lack of transparency of OpenAI to wave away any claims of capabilities. 2140

Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 29/09/2026If Opus5.5 is indeed a distill of a bigger model, and if Anthropic didn't lie too much when they said they will be profitable in Q3, then OpenAI is a pretty bad place now. 020
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I haven't been so bearish on OpenAI in a long time. Botched training, a cancelled release, decreased limits and now they are attempting to improve margins with an ultrafast mode. Are they in trouble? 000
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I haven't tried Sol-6, but judging by my twitter TL it wasn't that good of a model. They also seemingly botched 6.1 Astra training so much that they had to stop frontier training to fix their broken envs. It feels like OpenAI is pacing the frontier involuntarily. 010
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 29/09/2026As they should. I just checked my OR bills and it turned out Jev is not cheaper than the earlier Qwen instruct model I was using. Output is free, input is half the price, but Jev is counting a lot more input tokens (the prompt also needs to be a bit longer for jev to get a good agreement rate). 150
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I wanna see the CoT tokens so much. Did Claude roleplay here or did it take the prompt at face value? 110

Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Very good analogy pointing out how anthropomorphizing LLMs is not primarily intended to hide the responsibility of labs and if it were, it wouldn't be an effective tool. 010

Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 27/09/2026You do have two eyes though. You and the insurance company can both look around and quantify the risk of the unwanted event based on past occurrences. Then you can decide about the insurance based on this data. Same goes for corporate risk management. 000
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Exactly. SETI and some grants for related areas are good. I support not deliberately sending out signals about our existence. But I would oppose turning off our satellite-based communication or restricting the use/sale of radio transmitters to lower the chances of getting noticed. 010
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Insurance is about proven risks. We can even quantify them otherwise insurance wouldn't work. ASI x-risk is more akin to a risk from aliens exterminating our planet. Impossible to falsify, impossible to quantify and trying too hard to mitigate this risk can be harmful on its own. 340
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Flying attributes agency to the plane when it has none. It is a marketing term that is designed to hide the responsibility of the pilots when the inevitable catastrophes happen. 0241

Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The window to ban open models is closing slowly (provided a real, actual reason to ban them won't emerge). The more companies use open models in the US and in the EU, the more the resistance such moves will face. 010
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 25/09/2026She only engages with actors who looks easy to beat. If you are a guy without a phd or working in an irrelevant field making a simple pont, she accuses you of mansplaining or not understanding her expertise. If you make good points and/or have too good credentials, you get ignored or blocked. 0111
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 25/09/2026If that's your only concern (and I have admit there is some merit to it) then you can still use open models. There are a whole lot of neoclouds who provide open models and they are nowhere near as scammy as OAI/Anthropic/X/Meta and won't send a single cent of yours to them. 1230
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Don't be afraid. I'm sure it's not hacking software, breaking cryptographic primitives or performing mass surveillance. 161
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/20262. There is a rapist sex cult in California, interweaving some of the AI safety circles. Provided that is true, this is still an extremely sensitive topic. I would reach out to journalists who dealt with similar things before. It's gonna be a huge work, collecting evidence, finding victims, etc. 0332
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Also I would detach two topics. 1. EA/rationalism is a weird ideology with cultish organizations behind it and we shouldn't automatically trust their policy suggestions regardless if they look good on the surface. This is what journalists need to see and it is easy to write based on hard evidence. 1302
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/2026If you show the next one to a lawyer, also show it to someone else who is not chronically online. Even without the allegations, the tone, the structure and the information you decided to include (and to leave out) made the post incomprehensible by anyone not knee-deep in the lore. 4410
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/2026What is worse is that it is presented as food for normies and journalists. I'm not sure if I can trust the judgement of someone who thinks this is the way to communicate with journalists not knowing anything about EA/rationalist arguments and communities. This will have the opposite effect. 030
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/2026There's information in the post. For example Fernandez. That short video and the alt account. I thought he is a random loser. On the other hand, it is a rant, and not even a very coherent one. Many of the conclusions are not supported by evidence and are non-impossible conspiracy theories at best 130
Mimrock @mimrock.bsky.social · 24/09/2026There is a big question: How long the tail is? Because currently almost everything LLMs can do now is quick, cheap, but if it was made by a group of people for 12 man-month, it would be meh at most. Or see self driving cars. It took us 10+ years to get from L3 to geofenced L4. 020
