had a LOT of fun with improv piecing for little bags this afternoon

two patchwork quilt blocks, pieced together with many bits of cotton and linen fabric. they both share similar color palettes, with dark indigo blue, dusty pink, pale yellow, and various shades of cream, beige, and gray. the top block is kind of a freeform geometric arrangement, while the bottom block is a 9-square checkerboard framed in pale yellow and indigo

i just ordered torque hinges and a quick release clamp 💃 i’ve got wood scraps from the local hardware salvage store, and got a lightweight little camera tripod from a garage sale, just need to find a t nut from a hardware store. i miss drawing outside sooo much i’m so excited to be able to again 😭

chronic pain in my neck has totally killed my ability to draw anywhere away from my desk or drafting table (since i need a vertical easel, i can’t draw on a flat surface or even hold up a clipboard w/o a lot of pain) so i’m FINALLY building an on-the-go sketch easel à la james gurney’s tutorials!!

I made that wobbly little star block into a tiny pouch 😊 reclaimed linen fabrics, patchwork piecing on both sides with stripey lined interior. it will be available at the eugene saturday market tomorrow, booth 174!

a tiny zipper pouch with a wobbly sawtooth star quilt block on the front. the block is sewn with pale yellow, dusty pink, dark indigo blue, and tan linen fabrics. the star block has been pieced freeform so the corners don’t line up and it’s all slightly askew

the opposite side of the pouch, with more freeform piecing, in the same color palette

for a little cool-down play challenge i tried making a teeny sawtooth star quilt block but completely freeform to see how wobbly i could get it - no rotary cutter (just scissors), no ruler or measuring, no ironing until i finished. it came out so cute i love it so much!! and just took like 10 mins
