had a LOT of fun with improv piecing for little bags this afternoon

chronic pain in my neck has totally killed my ability to draw anywhere away from my desk or drafting table (since i need a vertical easel, i can’t draw on a flat surface or even hold up a clipboard w/o a lot of pain) so i’m FINALLY building an on-the-go sketch easel à la james gurney’s tutorials!!

I made that wobbly little star block into a tiny pouch 😊 reclaimed linen fabrics, patchwork piecing on both sides with stripey lined interior. it will be available at the eugene saturday market tomorrow, booth 174!

for a little cool-down play challenge i tried making a teeny sawtooth star quilt block but completely freeform to see how wobbly i could get it - no rotary cutter (just scissors), no ruler or measuring, no ironing until i finished. it came out so cute i love it so much!! and just took like 10 mins

got eye hooks for hanging and finished up three more little wall quilts! they all feature a mini hand-carved linocut print and hand quilting, hung on oregon coast driftwood. i’ll have them all at eugene saturday market tomorrow 💃

more sashiko samples! I LOVE this stitching technique now.. everything from hand-scoring a grid with bone folder and ruler, the way you hold the cloth without an embroidery hoop, how you hold the xtra long needle and pleat the fabric over it, all feels soo good and is exactly how i like to sew

a while ago i got myself some sashiko materials as an art treat and i just finished my first little sample! I’m going to keep sewing little 4x4” samples like this because i want to get rly efficient & even with my stitches.. thinking i’ll make them into tiny little zip pouches

neck has been too messed up to carve so i’m weaving a little bookmark today. using natural-colored handspun and plant-dyed yarn (the clay color is avocado pits & peels) and i carved that wooden needle from driftwood. cut a sloppy little heddle out of cardboard to make swapping sheds faster!

Ergonomics!! I have a cork attached to my most used tool so i can change my grip on it often while carving - alternating between a pen-like grip and more traditional block-carving grip. Also using a very soft medium like the pink speedball rubber makes a big difference for reducing fatigue

little test for watercolor hand-tinted prints is nice but I rly think i’d enjoy the color more with a colored print ink, maybe dark sepia.. so i’ll save that for another edition in the future! this batch will stay black & white

I carved a little rubber stamp so i can transfer my fish pin sewing pattern onto fabric reallyyy fast!! no more delicately tracing around a paper stencil.. i just cut an hour job down to 5 minutes 💪😤💪 FEELING AWESOME
