Fab day last Friday with @chrisgpackham.bsky.social visiting us to chat about all things evolution. So much of our work has synergies with his. Over the day he met with staff & students & also gave an amazing free public lecture. Lots of people said it was the best talk they've ever seen! 🤩

It's Evolutionary Fact Friday! Did you know some fungi sniff and smell plants before attacking them. Our very own Neil Brown is studying how we can use that knowledge to protect our crops. Listen to our podcast here: 🎧 YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQih...

It's Evolutionary Fact Friday! The evolutionary process is not all about organisms becoming ever better, some processes make us more imperfect. Our very own Laurence Hurst has written a book about The Evolution of Imperfection. Listen here 👇 YouTube youtu.be/gkHNP1Xi_pw 1/3

Our latest, led by @jameswclark.bsky.social of @milnerevolution.bsky.social shows that the notorious mismatch between molecular and palaeontological estimates for the timing of origin of angiosperms is a consequence of equivocal interpretation of their fossil record @bristolpalaeo.bsky.social

The timing of the origin of crown-angiosperms exemplifies the impact of competing approaches to establishing evolutionary timescales. Fossils of unequivocal crown-angiosperms are not known from before...

It's Evolutionary Fact Friday! The biological definition of a species is a group of organisms that's reproductively isolated: either they won't mate with other organisms or the hybrids aren't fit or able to reproduce themselves. Listen to Dr Leslie Turner in our podcast: 🎧 youtu.be/theUVye9S5o

It's Evolutionary Fact Friday! People often think that evolution is directional, it's aiming for something ever better. It's not. It's much more complex than that! Listen to the rather wonderful @bengarrod.bsky.social talk about his evolution misconception bugbears here YouTube youtu.be/eX4AMXxWEvw
