Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 06/10/2026They removed it out of respect to Princess Diana, and it never came back! 010
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 04/10/2026There must be a SPARQL query for that. AI could probably help write it. 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 03/10/2026One other thing I notice about this clip is that more than 50% of the bikes are rental bikes. There are so many problems with them in practice, but I'm not surprised that vehicles that may as well be time machines are so popular. It's a big vote of confidence. 011
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 03/10/2026How crap is it that the Apple parental controls can only be managed from Apple devices? Google have a web app so parental controls can be managed anywhere you have access to a web browser (as well as iPhone and Android apps). Big tech really doesn't get to be this half-arsed about anything else. 010
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I learnt what "Greenwich Lightvessel" was from this map. It's nowhere near Greenwich! (and is 0.0015949º west of Greenwich according to OpenStreetMap) 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Imagine if each child in your family had to buy an their own copy of a game to play on the same XBox? MS Support confirm that no other software works like this, but don't care if you accidentally install it to the wrong account. The only solution is to buy again. How is that even legal? 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 01/10/2026If it's installed by an adult (because they are the administrator of the PC) then only the adult can play it. Sucks if the software in question is a game for kids. Only Microsoft could create a system like that. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 01/10/2026There isn't a day goes by where I don't find another way to despise Microsoft. Did you know that when you install Minecraft Java Edition, it's not available to all accounts on the PC? Only the person who installed it is allowed to run it. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I'm sad to report that the bike lane in Ealing Broadway is closed temporarily while work is undertaken. Normal parking will resume as soon as possible. 010
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 24/09/2026They are really expensive to install, especially to get the density you have in central London in the suburbs, so I'm not sure that's realistic 110
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Well done to the person who already added the West London Orbital proposal to OpenStreetMap, so one can see the exact route. www.openstreetmap.org/relation/172...openstreetmap.orgRelation: West London Orbital (Proposed) (17225862)OpenStreetMap is a map of the world, created by people like you and free to use under an open license. 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Also because the Santander bikes are docked, it's not physically possible to drop off more bikes than the designated capacity. But we don't have Santander bikes in the sticks, and it would be a shame to restrict rental bikes only to the centre of town. 111
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I'm guessing that this evening there will be three bikes left there? 200
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I love rental bikes and use them all the time. There's probably a name for this kind of organic ebb and flow of these vehicles and someone must be able to come up with a way to moderate the impact of so many being parked in one place? 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Could the operators be forced to observe a maximum capacity of a designated parking area? Should the council be allocating more designated spaces? I love rental bikes and this illustrates how many commuters in this location use them, but it is also NUTS! 001
Reposted by StevenStephen Bush @stephenkb.bsky.social · 22/09/2026It's one of the absolute pinnacles of the art form, both this final series and the whole great tapestry of it. It is both a fantastic bit of social history and also in of itself an item of social history, and it happened in a lot of ways by accident and serendipity. 612714
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 22/09/2026This must be one of the best documentaries ever made? I watched both these finale episodes back to back, regularly in tears. 010

Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I'd be interested in how often the scofflaws are delivery riders - the number of times I've seen them do shitty things and often while looking at their phone too. 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 17/09/2026You can't convey much nuance in skeets and nobody said being hit by cycles is more dangerous (or even as dangerous) as being hit by a car. Just that it's not any consolation when you are endangered by a cyclist on the pavement than by a driver. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Social media has so many people whose intention is to make things more dangerous for cyclists but I don't think David is one of them so sometimes I think the defensive response can be counterproductive (200 replies further on) 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 17/09/2026There are sometimes justifiable reasons for riding on the pavement but if someone doing so has managed to scare pedestrians in the process then it's frustrating for someone to be responded to by whataboutery. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 17/09/2026This has been going on for days because of one badly worded phrase: "irresponsible cycling community". He wasn't saying all cyclists are irresponsible, he was saying that the people defending riding in an antisocial way are irresponsible. I don't completely agree with that but see the frustration. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 17/09/2026It comes to an even bigger number if you count people who were born in Britain but at least one of whose parents wasn't, the measure that Matt Goodwin keeps using. I was surprised to discover that by his definition, I wasn't "white British" (and the context that Churchill and the King are mentioned) 010
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Well the enforcement needs to be done enough that most people don't do the thing that's illegal. I'd like judgement to be allowed on red lights when there's no one around, but understand that introducing subjective judgement into something like this is risky. 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I just tried searching for my source on "severity 3 (minor)" collisions are underreported and wonder if this document I found instead is a response to the Deliveroo/Uber eats problem? www.gov.uk/government/s...gov.ukReported road casualties Great Britain: estimates involving driving for work 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Likewise, I'm really curious how many of the reported ebike collisions are delivery riders on illegal e-motorbikes. At the moment I only have my own prejudices because I suspect the proportion is high, and they are the ones most likely to be looking at their phones while moving. No data. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026No, it's really important for accurate data about how often these things happen. I was knocked off my bike into a 40mph dual carriageway by a driver exiting a side road without looking left. Closest near death experience. Didn't get the drivers details because I was too shaken to think straight. 110
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I've FOId the Met about speeding in my neighbourhood and they confirmed: 1) the only fixed speed camera issued no tickets the preceding year and was for deterrence only. 2) they do no proactive speed enforcement anywhere within a mile of the lone, non functional speed camera. 110
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026David's sounds like a "near miss" which isn't recorded but in Health and Safety law on a business premises would be expected to be logged. I did ask my councillors if the council would consider recording near misses as I've seen several terrifying incidents on the school run but no one keeps track. 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Out of curiosity, did you report your collision to the police, and did it go into the STATS19 data? I'm sure cyclist/pedestrian collisions are underreported, but there was a recent study showing that "severity 3" collisions were underreported across the board. Yours involved injury. 200
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I once reported some really aggressive driving and was only contacted by the Met for footage three weeks later when the same vehicle was involved in a fatal collision. I've still no idea what eventually happened but I think I know which row in the dead people STATS19 spreadsheet it is. 010
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026This is what I do, could we just apply the golden rule here - treat others as you'd like to be treated? I warn my kids about speed and space when there are pedestrians around, but I also consider treating a red light as a "yield sign" a lesser evil when there is no one around. Not true in DH's case 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 16/09/2026Road rules aren't enforced enough anywhere. If you did a poll asking "when was the last time you exceeded the speed limit?" and "when was the last time you faced a penalty for exceeding the speed limit?" the former will be much more recent than the latter even for drivers with licence plates. 110
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I do suspect that cyclists ignore the same red lights that pedestrians do (ie check if anything is coming, go if not). I understand that pedestrians are allowed to ignore red lights and cyclists aren't, but it goes to show that cyclists consider their situation closer to pedestrians than drivers. 010
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Riding primary just where the road gets wider would feel like a deliberate provocation to some drivers. 000
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I'd worry doing that, round here the road junctions are often the only places that roads aren't a single lane passing between parked cars, so usually the only opportunity for a driver behind you to overtake. 100
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 15/09/2026This straight across junction is a typical example and has the casualty stats to prove it. The homeowner on the corner has rebuilt his garden wall at least twice after colliding cars destroyed it. maps.app.goo.gl/F93GFtLSaAeS...maps.app.goo.gl 110
Steven @milh0use.bsky.social · 15/09/2026That last bit is the trickiest thing. Obviously I've taught my kids about priority but while you're tracking everything else, you need to remember that some road users will ignore priority, so even when you're on the main road, you need to be ready to stop anyway. 110
