For years we’ve watched our favourite ‘scary’ movies as a lead up to Halloween. This year because of theatre shows, writing festivals and Thanksgiving in order to finish on Halloween night we have to start… tonight!

Tim Curry as well? Yesterday was a bad day for originals. He made the better villain in this movie. He made all movies he was in better. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjjF...

‘Severe’ thunderstorms in Vancouver. We don’t get these. But nature is sure putting on a show tonight!

Actual pocket size books, great if you’re travelling and have 9 hours on a plane(both ways), or need to wind down at night. For our last trip I took some Nero Wolfe with me for just this purpose. I know there are e-books, but the feel of an actual paperback and they fit in a pocket can’t be beat.

Paris daily traffic. So explain to me how they have car chases in movies in Paris?

010

Lavkulich @mileslavkulich.bsky.social · 29/07/2026

It’s 35 degrees and getting hotter in Paris. Expected to be close to 39 by tonight. Finally @jgchayko.bsky.social is warm enough to not wear a jacket.

Yes the French have a kids version of Agatha Christie’s ‘Death on the Nile’.

@svengoolieofficial.bsky.social, we saw this costume at the Paris Opera house as part of their historical costume collection. Perhaps an early version of the Gillman?

To quote Jeremy Northam from ‘The Tudors’ … the French they’re just so… French… Beautiful and opulent salon in the Paris Opera House. The place to be seen.

Tonight @jgchayko.bsky.social and I are celebrating 6 years of marriage. We climbed out of bed early to get married in a pandemic with very close friends, today we climbed Montmarte to celebrate with a few 100 people who happened to be in Paris. Thank you for the past, the present and our future.

Symmetrical book stacking in Paris, much like it was first described in Ghostbusters. ‘No human would stack book this way’, obviously they haven’t been to Paris.

There’s something amusing about having a multi-million dollar lighting rig, with state-of-the-art control systems, and having to verify an automated light has failed by poking it with a stick.

Just finished a book by Ed and Lorraine Warren. Scientific, not really, will it change your mind, nope, is it entertaining…yep! Nice collection of ghost stories and beliefs about spirits. Probably out of print and I’m not sure how we ended up with a copy, but a great break from the real world.

Sometimes it’s nice to go back and revisit the Masters. I know others have continued the different series he created but for me none can come close enough to his original works. It’s the 90’s and Spenser and Robert B Parker are clicking along very nicely.

Just finished Robyn Hardings ‘Strangers in the Villa’. Nice twists along the way and did the ending set up a potential sequel? We shall see…

I have been fortunate to travel to different countries. I have seen places older, more lavish, and who have gone through more growing pains than Canada. We are like a teenager, still not quite sure of ourselves but making our way in the world. Happy Birthday Canada! Let the growing pains continue.
