I really wonder how intentional it was but it feels like almost every shot is framed by squares and lines. Dark, everyday objects - coats, bags, apartment clutter - linger at the edges of frames. Always framed, always boxed in, in a monitor, in a television, trapping you, trapping you.

It's a film that thrives in its drained, grainy visuals. The characters don't have much going on in their minds, the story doesn't really hit, the nature of the haunting is confused, all of Tokyo is colourless, claustrophobic, vanishing. It is an aesthetic experience of loneliness and dread.

My one good idea for a movie: Horatio Nelson biopic that is solely about his affair with Emma Hamilton. There are no ships, and it gets really into the turbulent politics of Naples at the time and the relationship between Nelson, Hamilton and her husband. Starring Timothée Chalamet.
