Finally watched Zach Cregger's Resident Evil. Simply put: he really did adapt the feeling of playing an RE game, specifically what feels like a spin-off that never got made. And frankly, I'd prefer this over a retelling of a story you actually *can* play directly.

The vast majority of GTA fans are lowest common denominator gamers. They only play Call of Duty, 2K, etc. GTA is the only series they play that isn't annual, so it's extra super special to them. They'll defend Rockstar viciously because a new GTA is a life-altering event to them.
