You are NOT the sum of all the bad things you did while under the influence. Don't let that stuff define you. The new you is wiser, kinder, better.

Users are good at picking up habits. Try setting a daily alarm for a time for when you are home, then do something that's good for you, like 20 situps or reading 10 pages. It's amazing how quickly those things will become habit.

Get a paper calendar to watch your progress in recovery. It's fun crossing off the days and looking at all the X's. Or, do it prison style and put hash marks on the wall.

Happy sober Monday! Be aware today - temptation lurks where you least expect it.

Since I got sober, I built a full headless #Linux media server for free with a 20 year old Dell Inspiron with only 4GB of memory. This thing couldn't even run Windows 7 and was just sitting on the floor in my basement. Now I use it all the time.

Sobriety is a process that you sometimes have to let run in the background for a while until you have time to work on it again. For my #Linux friends, that's Ctrl-A D then screen -r.

Enjoy your sobriety today. That's the point of it after all.

I'm happy to say that I made it through what used to be a big drinking day for me - done early form work, wife off doing stuff with friends, ordering pizza, watching football. What a gauntlet! Now that I've said all that I'm amazed I made it.

Been making #sourdough bread for a couple years now. I'm looking for recipes to try if you have one to share.

It was that pretending that felt wrong, the knowing that by 7:00 I would be drunk again and doing the same stupid thing, saying the wrong words. Rinse and repeat.

Then I would slink out into the world wondering who might appear around the next corner and confront me with whatever it was I did.

Sometimes I wake up with that familiar feeling where I'm worried about whatever the hell I did yesterday that I can't quite remember, but it must have been something bad or stupid. I used to live like that, always on edge.

I feel really, really good in the morning now. I'm grateful for that, but I also feel ashamed for wasting so much time, so many mornings.

Long-time users are much more than long-time losers. They have accumulated valuable experience for you to avoid.

What are you grateful for today?

Think about your sobriety today and be proactive. If you have daily affirmations, say them. If there is a meeting, attend. Then after you have worked on you, try to perform one act of random kindness to spread your good fortune.

When you're having one of those days when all you do ends in tears, and you wonder how on Earth are you going to stay sober, try to remember that THIS is the fight. You're in it, right now. Reach out to your brothers and sisters in recovery for succour. Fight through it! You can do this.

Don't forget to celebrate your sobriety today and every day. Show yourself some love. You deserve it.

Nothing can quite compare to the feeling I got biting into toasted #sourdough I made myself. It's like being able to eat your own painting or novel.

Try to get a little exercise in today. Walk the dog, ride the bike, do a video. Part of healing your soul in recovery is repairing your body. What a great way to kick off the week!

Feeling guilty about that pint of chocolate Häagen-Dazs every night just to stay sober? Well, DON'T. Whatever it takes, you do. You can worry about those few extra pounds later. Just don't do anything illegal.

#Sobriety is a state of mind. Using is all about losing your mind.

Lay out your clothes for tomorrow and make your bed in the morning. Small tasks easily accomplished give you a sense of control and train you to be successful in life.

If you made it through today sober, you are as successful in your recovery as everyone else in recovery, even if today is your first day. May tomorrow be even better! #sobriety #recovery

Fridays can be the hardest day for young working people trying to stay sober. There really is a part of the world lined up and conspired against your sobriety. Remember the magic words today and say them out loud. "I don't need that!"

It's football season! Think of your sobriety as a football, and you are the running back. There are monstrously large obstacles in front of you on every carry, but also some badass people on your side to help you. Your only task: To move forward and not fumble.

I always envisioned Jill as fair in stature, because Jack had to brake her fall, and he already concussed.

The first few weeks of sobriety feel surreal. Why shouldn't they? Your entire lifestyle has been upended. Keep your goals simplified to just this one during this time: To make it to bed tonight sober.

I like to think of sobriety not as a journey, but a filling up of something truly vital that had been nearly emptied.
010
Dastardly Sober @mikeygetssober.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
I often hear sobriety described as a "journey." This is only half right. Journeys have destinations. We seek a change in lifestyle for our own reasons. As in a relationship, we work at that lifestyle for the remainder of our lives. It is maintenance, not arrival.

Start a lengthy project to see your progress in sobriety. Read a long book, start learning a new language on #Duolingo, crochet an afghan, anything that sounds fun and takes a while. When you reach the end sober, you have added a criitcal skill to your arsenal: How to enjoy life without using.

Until you reach a year of sobriety, everything is a first. It's your first time cutting the grass, first birthday party, first Christmas. Whatever it is, it's your first time doing it sober. Don't be afraid, but it's time to reflect upon what that means to you.

Dastardly Sober @mikeygetssober.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I want you to say the words "I don't need that" out loud, every day, every time you even think about your substance. You will hear it in your ears so many times that you will be influenced by it.

Dastardly Sober @mikeygetssober.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Every time you start a sentence today with "Why can't...," STOP and correct it with "How can..." You don't need that kind of thinking anymore.

Fridays are the perfect day to keep your shit together. Don't skip breakfast. Take your meds. Make plans for tonight. Paint your nails, watch a movie, walk the dog. Sounds simple, but that's a full day of working on you!

Some days are downers. Nothing feels right; you're in a funk. Those days are a danger to your sobriety. This is the time to pull out all of the stops; use what you have learned, and stay sober today!

All that effort you put into drinking or using has got to go somewhere. The further you move away from that bad habit, the mire your mind WLL turn to other things, and you will feel free!

Letting go of your old life can be difficult, especially for heavy drug users. They often find that ALL their friends were users, and they now feel utterly alone. This is the hardest part of recovery, and where a support group like NA or SMART can help. Find a meeting and go, you will feel better!

The hunger to live is for the sober. Drinkers and users do little but drink and use, always hoping today can be the day they can overcome, feeling helpless at the end of the day, and waiting for tomorrow. Come into the light, my brothers and sisters!

It seems I couldn't walk through my backyard barefoot as a kid without getting stung by a honeybee. They were everywhere. Now, I smile at everyone I chance to see.

Give away or throw away your alcohol recipes. They stare you in the eye whenever you open the recipe book to make cookies and tempt you needlessly. Seriously, get rid of that stuff.
