Isn't it weird that I can post a photo of my words, but not the plaintext?
Civilization is a paper thin veneer over society that allows 8 Billion people to survive. If it tears sufficiently, the supply chain for agriculture breaks for good and half of us die in the resulting famine.
That in turn creates the escalation pressure on the nuclear powers that could easily wipe us all out. Given the vast corruption and incompetence of the current duopoly, it wouldn't take much.

Even AI curing cancer with a public domain one shot cure could be the destabilizing force that causes the first tear, then it's game over. 8(

It's also possible they still believe in Democracy, even through both major parties don't.

It was solved in back in 1999, and it was called Napster. It caused CD sales to skyrocket, so naturally, the music industry killed it. I've never purchased a new CD since, I was buying a few a month until they started suing customers.

I'll remember the rigging of the 2016 DNC primary that lead to Hillary getting the nod, who subsequently lost what should have been a cake walk.

TW: POLICE VIOLENCE, RACIAL PROFILING, DEATH . . . . . So yesterday in my city, Dutch police mistakenly arrest a black man for riding a stolen fatbike; it was his & he was trying to pick up his diabetes medicine. He tries to warn them but they choke him out. "I can't anymore" were his last words.

It wasn't that long after the bombing that *almost* took the towers down in 1993. The truck was parked in the wrong place, or it would have collapsed things. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Wo...

If my friend who's been repairing stuff since the 50s is to be believed, as thermal cycles happen, the gas-tight nature of the connections undoes itself, it might take a decade, but eventually you end up soldering all the connections.

When we were kids, there were about 4 movies we watched over and over, The Blues Brothers, Amadeus, Footloose, and Stripes and of course "It's a wonderful life" was almost always on PBS

No, those terms imply data leaves one place and ends up elsewhere, which is NOT what happens. The data in both uploads and downloads is a remote duplication process.

I tried them once, and they weren't made correctly, nothing on either side was in focus, no matter how I tilted my head, so I just had a tiny spot that I could see properly. The response "oh, you'll get used to it" I went back to normal glasses.

I'm not shirking off journalism at all, it was the failure to actually do journalism on my local NPR station that had me stop supporting that station, and it soured me on NPR/PBS in total. They broke neutrality, and I simply don't trust them any more. There are other reliable news sources left

It's important to know that the trees in the entire county were decimated, at a minimum. It's more likely a quarter of them were downed, almost all falling due east, due to the derecho. Most of Lake and Porter counties will have people without power for a long time, including myself.

@miasato.bsky.social doesn't seem to realize that many data centers are using their own turbine based generation, adding huge noise, and air pollution, to the sizable heat island they create from using all that power.

Mike Warot @mikewarot.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
So, you'd be fine with gas turbines running 24/7 down the block? We're still running a generator after a Derecho/Tornado swept through town... it's not an acceptable long term way of life. Trying to slap the NIMBY label on reasonable concerns isn't helpful.

The transformation of the Indiana BMV is amazing! I went with my Mom and sisters in the 1970s... we stood in a long line, Mom and us kids... and waited... only to learn we were in the wrong line Then again in the new line, except Mom was missing a document! Now it's 10 minutes with nice chairs!

You've got kids, who aren't anywhere near driving age, moving FASTER than traffic down sidewalks here Truly, ignorance is bliss, until they get splatted like a bug because nobody expects 30+ MPH stealth kids to appear from the sidewalk, you know, where people are usually at 3-5 mph

Word meanings drift with usage, lockdown means not being allowed to go about our previous default lives, by fiat. Of course it's not literally about being locked down, with the exception of some places in China, that had people welded into confinement.

The only reason Gas isn't already $10 is that China somehow managed to cut their oil imports by an insane amount, and saved the world. They could change their mind, and snap, things would crash completely, everywhere, all at once.

In New York City, if you break our worker protection laws and shortchange your workers, we will make you pay back what you owe.
Yesterday, we recovered $2.3M for 1,600 workers from Walgreens, Calzedonia, and Kinship Coffee. Since January, we have recovered more than $10 million for New York City workers. Because our City is not a billionaire's playground.
New Yorkers have the right to a regular schedule and protected time off. If your employer violates our laws, file a complaint at nyc.gov/workers and we will fight to put money back in your pocket.
