Some sort of devops or system or problem refinery. Smooth out everything but make sure you have all your dysfunctions together in one spot that gets scrutiny.

This Saturday we are doing the big Keene New Hampshire pumpkin festival with a few thousand pumpkins in a town of a few thousand people. Also, you can get a “fried dough” over here so you don’t accidentally have 2 funnel cakes in a year.

You have so many topics to cover and I will keep reading them. I’d love to see a questionnaire where you lay out like 20 conclusions and people can click either “of course” or “nope” and then you can write about the “nope”s. Or write about any of the “of course”s that are myths.

You can also explicitly state/ask: “I am willing to change my views if you have information I don’t and can explain your priorities.” Or “I think you may have some bad info. Would you change your mind if we get some better information?” If they aren’t willing or you aren’t, maybe don’t try.

Hardware stores have the big rectangle pencils you can use with gloves on that also can only be sharped with a blade. All the whittling practice finally paying off.

It’s always better to wish for the person to grow and become better.

I tried this in the past and it seems like if you’re not writing them a check, they’re not particularly interested.

I guess around nine-eleven the standards bodies changed kilo back to 1000 and invented kibibytes. I missed it because I was busy multiplying things by 1024 all day.

This is an interesting one. I think it’s the same reason a manager that knows how to do the things their reports do is a better manager. Same applies for anything you outsource. Sometimes it’s important and other times it’s distracting.

Prior state: data center builds abusing community resources with NDAs and sneaky negotiation Ban datacenters: they go elsewhere. Communities lose Allow but constrain datacenters: everybody wins. Controlled resource strain, more investment outside the building.

I’m not implying anything negative. I personally benefit greatly from dotnet. I personally prefer sitting at a Mac so so choose to use python or swift when building apps. Most start-ups are started by people sitting at Macs maybe? Phil wanted to know the brain rot. I think this is it.

The only time I use dotnet is when I’m doing work for a fortune 35ish company that is MS captured.

I support thousands of companies. Any that aren’t MS lock-ins are using anything else. Mostly worse stuff.

Dotnet is something people only use if they are forced to.

The rational market should fix this but monopoly laws going unenforced means you miss out on the spoils if you abstain… so here we are.

Feed a bit of the delicious garlic to the person you would kiss. Garlic isn’t the problem, it would be a mismatch of garlic that is the problem. I can tell when my wife has stepped out with a garlic bread.

Has anyone looked up how various animals were considered in relation to humans? We’ve moved the goalpost on them several times. Same as AI. First they don’t have feeling. > Obvs feelings Then they aren’t smart > obvs smart Then they aren’t artistic > I dunno man..

The CISSP cert I got 20 years ago (ish) was peppered with ethical aspects about how to be responsible in the security and compliance domains. I’m sure that corpus is in the LLM training data somewhere!

Just got a baby Dachshund a few days ago and she spent a while shivering when we went out for a very early bathroom break. I didn’t realize they have no undercoat and need cute sweaters until that walk!

I gotta say Gastown being a Gastown building machine is giving me GitLab flashbacks. The tool was for building the tool. The people were all developers who develop for development sake.

It really isn’t an argument against unless you’re more empathetic to “big company” than any other participants. The people who quit would increase GDP and overall economic value by disrupting the shitty incumbents.

I prefer the rejected one where the challenge is that your house is entirely full of poop and you are then stuck inside. That’s the poop pile challenge.

Yeah. We seem to be able to get like 1% of people to like 40% potential and 90% to like 2%… If full potential is across all the humans increasing from 2% to 100%, there are a lot of very sweeping changes to the order of things.

My brain autocorrected it at read-time so I was like “how’d Ian never hear the term bootlickers?” Only downside. Other than that 👌
