Mike @miketerhar.com · 05/10/2026This is an interesting one. I think it’s the same reason a manager that knows how to do the things their reports do is a better manager. Same applies for anything you outsource. Sometimes it’s important and other times it’s distracting. 030
Mike @miketerhar.com · 02/10/2026Claude can’t have more rights than cows. I simply won’t hear of it. 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 26/09/2026Has anyone looked up how various animals were considered in relation to humans? We’ve moved the goalpost on them several times. Same as AI. First they don’t have feeling. > Obvs feelings Then they aren’t smart > obvs smart Then they aren’t artistic > I dunno man.. 110
Mike @miketerhar.com · 25/09/2026The CISSP cert I got 20 years ago (ish) was peppered with ethical aspects about how to be responsible in the security and compliance domains. I’m sure that corpus is in the LLM training data somewhere! 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 21/09/2026Well now I need a TiVo so I can fast forward through the ads again. The cycle is never-ending 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 17/09/2026I’m inventing a new thing. Code driven development. You just get the code. 100
Mike @miketerhar.com · 16/09/2026I gotta say Gastown being a Gastown building machine is giving me GitLab flashbacks. The tool was for building the tool. The people were all developers who develop for development sake. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 11/09/2026I post a lot more when I’m super exhausted and tired and kinda sick. It makes me question all you poasters. Like i have temporary brain damage, what’s your deal? 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 05/09/2026Just spent 4 hours watching weird Al videos and the originals / inspirations with my kids and it’s just so wonderful. Thanks @alyankovic.bsky.social 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 02/09/2026Reminds me of back when Verizon said something cost 0.002 cents per gigabyte and was then charging 2 cents per gigabyte. slashdot.org/story/06/12/...slashdot.orgVerizon Can't Do Math - SlashdotBlogger George Vaccaro recently had a problem with his Verizon based on an unfortunate miscommunication of currency. The crux of the matter was that he was quoted .002 cents per kilobyte for data dur... 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 31/08/2026It was pretty amazing how I was on stackoverflow dozens of times per day for years and then just never had to go there ever again. 100
Mike @miketerhar.com · 29/08/2026I keep hearing that polling is terrible so I got a text to answer polling questions and clicked in… - 10 questions about demographics - 15 questions trying to get me to side with Israel or Palestine - Nothing about economics or local or national issues. Someone is p-hacking for antisemitism. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 28/08/2026So maybe we rename it from Strait of Hormuz to Strait of Donald J Trump? 100
Mike @miketerhar.com · 26/08/2026So this feels weird to me… we have LLMs tokenize a bunch of stuff, load up all the context, get an answer, get user feedback, and then put it in the trash for the next thing. Honeycomb looks at queries to see if the same one was run and just shows you the answer if it already ran. More of that. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 18/08/2026I’m kinda grumpy that everyone is able to traverse 100+ floors, muliple times per day in season 3 of Silo. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 03/08/2026Imagine if, every payday, everyone who had a 401k account purchased a few hundred dollars of gold. After 30 years, what would that do the price of gold? This is what happens for the index funds in the stock market… seems like it’s gonna create an issue. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 27/07/2026Oh hey! I have an idea. Since the index funds are default-inflated every payday when 401ks land, we need to prevent any of those companies from doing stock buybacks. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 26/07/2026The two I thought of: Stone Temple Pilots: Core The Offspring: Smash 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 25/07/2026I feel like we learned this year what most of the world learned a while ago, the economic damage of *something* can be higher than that of a nuclear weapon. The lesson needs to be pointed at concentrations of power that aren’t middle-eastern as well. They’re very dangerous. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 22/07/2026All I know these days is that security through obscurity is probably sufficient. Just vibe code everything but tell it not to use any. Instead extract any useful functions. Keep it oblique. No more npm worms or known vulnerable versions. Just unknown vulnerabilities. The safest kind 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 20/07/2026The amount of people defending Salesforce like it isn’t 99.9% tech debt, 0.1% useful integrations… Baffling. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 03/07/2026I’ve never been a fan of the “tech debt” analogy back when debt was a thing that had to be paid off. Now that we see debt is really just the ability of wealthy people to never pay back or get taxed, it is a much more apt analogy. Tech debt is code that is fine forever and one day dies. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 18/06/2026Is there an extended Maslow’s hierarchy of needs that includes frivolous stuff? How far up the extended tree do you need to be to decide to compile your own Linux kernel? 120
Mike @miketerhar.com · 16/06/2026asking an LLM to draft a document is a good way to see the parts that don’t matter and should be reduced or avoided. Then write all the parts it didn’t and that’s the important part. Then only send me the part Claude didn’t write. 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 15/06/2026@pattonoswalt.bsky.social I see you’re gonna be in Keene NH later in the month. My kids quite enjoyed your performance as White in Among us. If you hear someone yelling about imposters and such, may be them. 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 12/06/2026Were I to make an election policy, it would be that Election Day is 11/5 or whatever (a public holiday) and the results are collected over the following week and the results are released all at once the next week. The appearance of votes changing as each district reports is the problem. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 28/05/2026My only concern here is what happened last time. Conservatives put a bunch of nazis on their ballots. Liberals called them nazis. They got elected because the electorate likes nazi policies. Now liberals are like “surely you can’t support pedophiles!” But… like.. the president and his cabinet. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 21/05/2026Since gas prices went up by like, a lot… does that mean an EV with 55 mpg equivalent is now getting like 67 mpg? 100
Mike @miketerhar.com · 18/05/2026It’d be impressive but the monorail only takes like 5 watts per day because it’s always broken 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 08/05/2026> Suckin' on chili dog outside the Tastee Freez Like why? Just use different words 031
Mike @miketerhar.com · 22/04/2026Is it ethical to A/B test a pricing page? What about a Privacy policy or TOS page? 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 18/04/2026Another rousing blue shells and bullet bills race with the kids. Mayhem! 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 12/04/2026I love the use of Breaking. “Breaking news! Nothing is different from how it just was. And looks to be staying that way” 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 06/04/2026Not sure why Phineas and Ferb was made to be very high quality. I’m so glad my kids found it. It’s had me in tears several times over the past month. 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 05/04/2026Seems to me like if a president is creating rogue state and war crime vibes, if the congress and courts responsible for balancing the power aren’t doing so, they are complicit. If the attempt to rein him in fails, okay. Supporters of that attempt may hold up better at The Hague. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 01/04/2026When “the powers that be” decided to systematically gut the US workforce by offshoring, you couldn’t reskill your way out of that. The only way to keep your job was by moving to a different country and take a huge pay cut. Not that it was even really possible. These “powers” are looking at LLMs now 100
Mike @miketerhar.com · 19/03/2026My 11 year old came home from school and proceeded to login to his school Google workspace account and use Gemini to help write a story. He was delighted the whole time. I told him to be careful with it and be sure to carefully read and edit everything before asking anyone else to read it. 🤞 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 09/03/2026@cassidoo.co your pocket calendar app was very helpful for a bunch of families to coordinate Girl Scout troop availability. Just the right level of abstraction to get clear answers for the whole summer. 120
Mike @miketerhar.com · 05/03/2026Seems like people value writing as a way to distill messy thoughts into coherent plans, designs, etc. When an LLM does the refinement from cloud of neurons into words, the human part is reduced from 100% of the words to 5% per prompt. Maybe less or more… definitely not 100%. That’s fine sometimes. 000
Mike @miketerhar.com · 12/02/2026It’s interesting to see people be alarmed that the DOJ is recoding the searches of people looking at sensitive data. It’s important to have that history. I’m shocked that it would be allowed out of the scif on sheets of paper. The searches of sensitive data are at least as sensitive as the data. 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 23/01/2026Not do defend rug pulls but we need to normalize people’s crypto scams getting wrapped up as quickly as possible. Letting the bags people run up millions in fake clout token nonsense is worse than pulling out thousands and crashing it early. What the rug does with the cash should be judged. 020
Mike @miketerhar.com · 21/01/2026I wonder if reading things in our own accent makes us more likely to believe the thing we are reading than by hearing it spoken by someone else. I watched the old Wired series on YouTube about US accents and how localized they are. But when I read things, subtle accents aren’t perceptible. 010
Mike @miketerhar.com · 13/01/2026Gas town is fun to orchestrate things. I really want the mayor on my phone or remotely accessible without requiring a vpn and terminal and all that jazz. 000
