Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 10/10/2026I gave mine away in about 1981, really wish I hadn’t. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 10/10/2026The sinking feeling I felt as the prawn rose, majestically, in the shrinking booth was soon going to grow to foster an even greater sense of unease over the year to come. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Louise and Tom are both superb. There’s so much to like, apart from the prawn. 210
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 09/10/2026By complete chance I watched this on the 49th anniversary of K9’s appearance. He is and always will be a *very* good boy. This story was a shock to the system though. I like it more now than I did then, it’s fair to say. Michael Sheard is brilliant as ever, of course, and good script I thought. 130
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I’m watching all of Doctor Who from the start, in order. No 93 “The Invisible Enemy” Oct ‘77. Um… Right, K9 turns up so that’s a win. But all the gothic of the last year is replaced with bright lights and tin foil. My heart sagged at the time. And then the prawn happened. Oh dear… 130
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 06/10/20262/ Everyone watched Who and enjoyed it. However, news stories that Autumn were all about a sci-fi film in America that was conquering everything it touched. It featured cute robots, apparently. I wouldn’t get to see it until next year, but it sounded brilliant. 000
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I’m watching all of Doctor Who in order from the start. No 92 “Horror of Fang Rock” Sept ‘77. I start my second year of secondary school with this absolute belter of an episode. Delighted to see Victorian/Edwardian horror again. Everyone dies, too! Brilliant story. 120
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Worked hard yesterday, but honestly couldn’t be bothered today. Got on the train to Cambridge. Four *superb* museums already this morning. Archeology, dinosaurs, Egyptians, all the cool stuff. Just stopped for soup. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Vaguely recall reading that Bob Marley said that however old he was, he always imagined Jah as looking about 3 years older than him. Or something like that. Always quite liked that idea. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026What the… Genuinely, are we living in a computer simulation? This can’t be right. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Andrew? You know what, I can’t recommend this kite enough. It flies well and looks amazing: www.jurassickites.co.uk/our-products/jurassickites.co.ukOur Products – Jurassic Kites 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/20262/ Yes, the giant rat. Sigh… But look, if dodgy monsters are going to be a thing for you, then honestly this isn’t the fandom for you. The *noise* the rat makes is utterly horrific, at the very least. I wish we had a whole series set in Victorian London. It’s what I’d do if in charge, any road. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Over a year into my “Doctor Who from the start.” No 91 “The talons of Weng Chiang” Feb-Apr ‘77. Magnificent, macabre gaslamp horror. I turned 13 during this, delighted with the more adult gothic tone of the season that had held my hand as I started secondary school. Tom was still my whole world. 130
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Today I am curating historical cobwebs in our ancient church. Thankful for the invention of the impossibly long duster so I don’t have to go up a ladder. 070
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The only TV show that ever properly scared me. Love it to bits, obviously. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Scooby Doo did it for me. I didn’t like the music on “Bleep and Booster” on Blue Peter at the time, but the only thing that ever gave me a bad dream was Scooby Doo. Although the early “Alfred Hitchcock Three Investigators” books scared me, too. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It’s superb. I’ve watched it so many times and still I’m not quite sure what’s happening-which only makes me love it even more each time. Just wonderful. 120
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026“Always drink the local beer” is one of my rules for life. 110
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Ah. You know, I always thought this comic was called “Ready Goose” for some reason. It makes more sense now I see a copy. Kind of. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I’m sure some of my larger kites would have upset the poor social influencer far more than a children’s kite. Strange thing is I’ve never once had a snarky comment- people are usually quite happy to see kites and will stop and chat. Please don’t be put off by her strange reaction. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I sometimes fly 10 at once. Bit of a struggle to get airborne but looks great. 120
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I just went to the town funfair, walked up to the rifle range, won a soft toy and then *immediately* came home again. I have never felt so manly in my entire life. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I’m a middle aged man. I fly kites every chance I get. 180
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 03/10/2026What dreadful behaviour! Everyone should fly kites, they’re gorgeous. Don’t fly near horses, roads, airports, Royal parks and don’t go too high without permission. That’s pretty much it. Here’s one of mine: . www.caa.co.uk/general-avia... 361
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Walking through a deserted funfair in the dark, it’s impossible to feel as if you’re not in an episode of Scooby Doo. (The annual street fair has arrived in our town). 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Having only noticed last year that Sarah Jane was a girl, it had by now now absolutely caught my attention that Leela is a girl, too. 1977 was the year I turned 13 and punk rock would gradually become a thing. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I’m over a year into my quest to watch all of Doctor Who from the start. No 90 “Robots of Death” Jan-Feb ‘77. Stone cold classic. The art deco robots are amazing, the story smacks and there are some superb performances from the cast. Love it to bits. Superb. 120

Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Smashing jungle scenes in episode one. Lovely story- I wonder how long it’s been for him since the Doctor dropped Sarah off? 000
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Still pushing with my Doctor Who marathon from the start. No 89 “The Face of Evil” Jan ‘77. A new year! And Leela arrives, armed to the teeth and ready for anything. I never understood why the Doctor didn’t go back for Sarah, but Leela is simply amazing. 1977 is going to be quite the year… 100
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Lovely things. We had a venerable old one in our last house front garden. We called him Smaug. 110
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 15/09/2026… and there’s the ear worm for today. Thank you, though, it’s an absolute cracker. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I got this for Christmas when I was 15 along with Robert Foster’s “Complete Guide to Middle Earth” and Humphrey Carpenter’s biog. I read all three at once in the hope they’d enlighten me. It’s hard going, shan’t lie, but worth it. 010
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Absolutely loved this at the time. The Master looks incredible, as do the Time Lords. Age 12, it seemed the programme was growing up, just as I was. Still very violent, though. Can’t imagine Pat ever duffing people up like this, even in self defence. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Still keeping on with the Doctor Who marathon. No 88 “The Deadly Assassin.” Oh blimey! The Master’s back, except he’s a decaying corpse! Full on, isn’t it? Finally get to see Gallifrey which has NO GIRLS- which is odd (Are they all on Karn?) Superb story, though. Superb! 262
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I still find that last scene heartbreaking. It was decades before we found out where he’d left her and how she had struggled to move on with her life afterwards. She was brilliant. 020
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I’m on a quest to watch all of Doctor Who, from the very start. No 87 “The Hand of Fear” Oct 76. And suddenly she was gone. Sarah Jane, the first girl I loved, first person I noticed was a girl, is gone. Age 12, still mourning Middle School and terrified by Secondary School was in trauma. 120
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 12/09/2026It’s… it’s alright. Never a favourite, really. But it’s OK. Portmeirion looks brilliant, though, doesn’t it? You should go, it’s bonkers. Worth remembering that in Sept 76 there was no Star Wars, no punk rock, no Dungeons and Dragons. All three of these things would soon loom large in my life! 030
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 12/09/2026A year ago I started watching Doctor Who from the very beginning. Again. Today I got to hear: No 86 “The Masque of Mandragora” Sept ‘76. Long hot summer over, I started secondary school, so glad that at least Doctor Who is constant. LOVED the new /old console room! 230
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Really did. It was the bit that actually made me want to be in a church again. 120
Mike Maddox @mikemaddox.bsky.social · 12/09/2026@edwardrhbarlow.bsky.social Just finished reading a book about Soul Survivor I picked up at Greenbelt, and a church in Bexley turns up at the end. Yours? 120
