Check out chapter one of my dissertation in our recent review for TINS🍾🎉 Mitochondria are wildly heterogeneous — add a functionally compartmentalized neuron and the biology gets really interesting!!! (IMO)

Happy to share part I of Renesa Tarannum's thesis (my first grad student!) looking at how neuropil localized RNAs are spatially organized in the hippocampus. #Skeetorial #Neuroskyence 🧪 www.eneuro.org/content/12/1...

Multiplexed smFISH Reveals the Spatial Organization of Neuropil Localized mRNAs Is Linked to Abundance
RNA localization to neuronal axons and dendrites provides spatiotemporal control over gene expression to support synapse function. Neuronal messenger RNAs (mRNAs) localize as ribonucleoprotein particl...

Happy #Pride everyone. Nature is infinitely diverse.
A rainbow made up of different Manitoba wildflowers. The red on the left end is a three-flowered avens (lantern-shaped flowers), orange - wood lily, yellow - goldenrod, green - green bog orchid, blue - lungwort (little blue bells), purple - iris.

VT news article covering our paper on MCU in CA2 plasticity that highlights (at the end) the different undergrad programs that helped progress this work. One key aspect of these programs is to recruit and retain diverse talent that makes our research stronger. news.vt.edu/articles/202...
This is an image of a mouse brain section labeled for MCU that shows significant MCU staining in CA2 neuron distal dendrites compared to neighboring hippocampal subregion dendrites. This is a list of the undergraduate author’s program affiliations to highlight the role these critical programs play in driving NIH funded research.
