Today is World Press Freedom Day. True press freedom requires freedom of information. But in recent years, governments have shrunk access to info the public deserves, and cuts to newsrooms have shrunk the time & resources that journalists need to rigorously report that info.

Thousands gathered in Belfast, Northern Ireland this month to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising—the historic rebellion against British rule in Ireland. The annual remembrance was also interwoven with Palestinian solidarity, with many recognizing the parallels of occupation and land theft.

Today my heart is with Cambria and Elle Harris, who after nearly three tireless years have located the body of their mother, Morgan Harris, found in Prairie Green Landfill in Winnipeg. Morgan Harris and three other Indigenous women were murdered by convicted serial killer Jeremy Skibicki in 2022.

Unhoused community members set up an encampment at Centennial Square in #yyj #bc last night following a rally where they spoke about the systemic neglect & punitive policies targeting the unhoused. The encampment of around eight tents and a dozen people lasted until this morning when police arrived.
