Nothing says 'man of the people' quite like a politician calling a by-election at public expense on the issue of whether or not he should have the right to secretly take donations from Thai-based crypto billionaires and a convicted fraudster

Ah, good old Farage, wasting more taxpayers money on an unnecessary byelection just to soothe his thin-skinned ego. Fortunately, parliamentary investigations don't stop when an MP resigns, so there's still that..

How to change this debate. " Being outside the EU costs every UK household an average of £8,300 every year. But being inside again would only cost each UK household £38 every year. Do you still think we should stay out? "

It's only worth going back to the Moon if it makes us look properly again at Earth, and appreciate how beautiful, precious and fragile what we have here is. The most famous images from Apollo aren't about the Moon - they're pictures of Earth. We need to stop taking our home for granted.

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy. This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis. 44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..

The most enraging but also weirdly the only encouraging thing about that latest Once In A Generation (if only) crash is this one is so fixable. There’s no Covid, no subprime lending, just a dumb move that could be undone tomorrow. One man’s ego is the only obstacle.

Fifth and final leg of Leeds Country Way today. Abby’s Dad joined us today too. Fabulous weather and probably the most countryside-ish leg we’ve done. As ever way-marking really poor and wrong enough in one place to cause a couple of miles detour..

I don’t think cutting overseas aid is a difficult decision. It plays well with Badenoch & Farage supporters. Those affected won’t have a vote but will be deeply impacted and so will we in the longer term. Cutting the triple lock - now that’s a difficult decision…
