Much of the time I've been writing Alfred the Great's story of resisting invasions of Wessex has coincided with Ukraine resisting invasion. That has often been in my mind as I wrote. I do sincerely hope that President Zelensky and Ukraine survive and succeed in spite of yesterday.

Just listened to the interview with Richard Osman at the end of the audiobook of his 4th Thursday Murder Club. One snippet - he edits away very little at the editing stage, preferring to mostly edit chapters as he writes (as do I). Also - how he reveals characters' lives slowly. #writers #books

Images from my visit to Athelney as I researched the novel 'Alfred of Wessex'. No longer the island hiding place at the time of Viking invasion for Alfred the Great, but a nearby nature reserve shows how it would have been. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CCSKV8C6 #historicalfiction #books #booksky #vikings
