Not one but two unsettling stories by the master. Frank's benefactor takes him on a revealing journey, and Hoggy wreaks chaos to the alarm of his friends. Who ends up what in the end? The answers may baffle you. #JustRead

I have brought home a small handful of Boeing commercial aviation mugs from thrift stores over the years; today's find is by far the wackiest. #ThriftScore

I found these long lost photos of my band from 1995, Stage 65, playing our second and final show, opening for the bands Syrup USA and Holiday, at Boston University. These were taken with my camera but I don't remember by whom. L to R: me, Greg, Jennie, and Nathaniel. More details in alt texts.
Stage 65. There's a random guy standing behind me jamming on a cardboard guitar for some reason.Me, playing my busted guitar (only 5 tuning pegs), in my brief goatee phase. Yes, that's a Kliban shirt I'm wearing.

Starting to get into the holiday spirit. #JustWatched
Screenshot of my 3½ star review of In the Mouth of Madness (1994, Carpenter):

"I want to see your SUPERVISOR!"

I haven't gone insane after watching this movie. What a ripoff.

Well crafted, slightly elevated shlock, with some fun effects. Sam Neill is perfect as a slimy guy who gazes into the… well, you know. It's slimy in there, too.

Not my fave Wes Anderson. #JustWatched
Screenshot of my 3½ star review of The Phoenician Scheme (2025, Wes Anderson):

I wanted to like this more, and there's much to like in it, but it didn't hit for me as much as some of his other movies. I think this story needed less of his trademark staginess and whimsy. And again there are too many famous actors stealing bit parts from hardworking character actors. I didn't like Michael Cera at all. Del Toro, on the other hand, is the best thing about the picture.

Screenshot of my 4½ star review of Princess Mononoke (1997, Miyazaki):

Undeniable greatness — fantasy filmmaking of the highest order, and animation artistry beyond compare. Gorgeous and gruesome, mythic in scope, with astonishing imagery. I did find the two heroes to be a little bit hard to connect with — I guess they're too busy being badasses to have much of an inner life.

Aimless young adults in the 2000s, looking for purpose, facing unexpected tragedy, being silly, and coming together over the power of music. It's all pretty emo, and I think I'm too old for stories like this now, but darn it if I didn't get caught up rooting for these kids. #JustRead

#JustWatched The French Dispatch. Wes Anderson gives you what you came for. Some of his bolder stylistic choices in this one, and some of his funnier bits. (I'll attach the screenshot too because I'm a little OCD that way)

This was a hell of a movie. #JustWatched
Screenshot of my 4½ star review of Mad God (2021, Tippett):

An undeniable artistic achievement. Possibly the most unrelentingly hellish visions ever put on screen, at least for a feature length movie. The labor and artistry is awe-inspiring. I can't rate this in comparison to conventional narrative films — it plays by its own rules, and you have to meet it on its own terms. The most disgusting film I've ever seen, by a long shot. Any nightmares I have as a result of watching this will be tame in comparison to the movie itself. I saw Phil Tippett talk about his depression in a documentary, and it's clear he was working some shit out here. What a tragedy that he had to sell off his Studios.

Interconnected manga short stories that range from bittersweet to downright sad. A good library sale score from a number of years back. I don't think I realized this was volume 2 when I picked it up — I was just excited to find it — but it worked mostly okay starting halfway through. #JustRead
