33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.
The dock of Myst Island from the original version of the game. A wooden dock ends at a spiral staircase that leads up to giant gears on a hillside. A ship is sunk in the water on the right, and parts of buildings are visible on the left.

I always found it funny that Apple weather gives monthly rainfall in millimetres for most cities in Europe but in centimetres for Wenzhou. Normally that is. Since this morning, it gives Wenzhou’s rainfall of the last 30 days in fractions of a meter 😂

John Iliffe was a giant in the field of African history taking African agency seriously, rather than just writing about the history of white men in Africa. May his books be read and re-read for many years to come!

She was the matriarch of our family and kept us all together and that means, this is also an end of an era for our family. While I am glad that her suffering is over — her last weeks have not been easy — I am also, somehow contradictorily, at the same time feeling empty and filled with sadness.

She was the anchor who quietly enabled my brothers and me — and of course my dad — to do things. There's many decisions in my life which I might not have taken if I would not have had that support, security, and safety net.

But anyway, I have zero influence on this election, or what might or might not happen if he does get elected. I am just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if Burnham would continue the Starmer's centre-right policies, eventually leading to a Reform election win in the next national elections.

Also, evidence from around Europe shows that copying the far right discourse is only helping the far right and is shifting the Overton Window.

Moritz Mihatsch @mihatsch.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
That was exactly the argument which supporters of the current PM made, to convince the left to vote for him. Turns out the Starmer's wiggle room wasn't about changing course at all, but only about making it look like as if he might.

Moritz Mihatsch @mihatsch.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
You agreeing with him is your choice. I am just observing that he is positioning himself to the right of his own party's increasingly restrictive position on immigration. Voters who disagreed with that for the current PM won't suddenly change their mind because it's a different talking head.
