Excited for the new issue of Midnight Magazine tomorrow! The last issue, Midnight Macabre, is a gorgeous roster of great spooky tales. It includes my own work, Heavenly Consumption! drive.google.com/file/d/1OIzr... Check out Midnight Machines starting tomorrow from @midnightwriters.bsky.social

A gray and white banner displays a excerpt of feedback the story Heavenly Consumption received in Midnight Magazine: "A perspective that is so alien and monstrous that it's impossible to look away."

While I was initially stoked to be asked to guest judge the @midnightwriters.bsky.social comp, now that I’m faced with having to decide between so many genuinely excellent stories, I’ve changed my mind 😂 I’ve read the longlist twice, nearly thrice. An order is forming…

Athena has checked in! She's read all of the top 25 stories, and in her own words: "What a longlist! 🤩 These stories are bloody brilliant!" She hinted that she has some stand outs already, but is still mulling over her list...

My story "Jerry Was a Bare-Knuckle Fighter" was a finalist in @midnightwriters.bsky.social 's Midnight Magazine. Which is very cool. I'm trying to not let getting laid off right after I found out ruin it for me lol.

Finalist! Midnight Macabre badge/sticker looking graphic. Ghost holding black cat. Word balloon says "yayyy!" I think the ghost is saying it, but it could be the cat. Take your pick. Ghosts don't have vocal chords and cats don't have lips. Could go either way.

It’s an amazing mix of stories at the top! We’ve got stories ranging from 500 words to 1200 words. In fact, SIX of our finalists come in under 1000 words. @eyelash93.bsky.social sure has her work cut out, but if there’s anyone we’d trust with dark fiction, it’s her. 🖤🖤🖤

I've finished reading all of the top stories handed over to me for @midnightwriters.bsky.social's Midnight Magazine. What a wonderfully disturbing stack of fiction. Now comes the butchery - cutting it down to the final Top 10. There will be casualties.

I’ve had a few people message me, worried they’ve spotted a typo, so let me lay your fears to rest — the dream behind Midnight Magazine is to celebrate great stories. We’re not here to punish errors and we can certainly read around typos (and I’ll fix any minor hiccups before it goes to print).🌙🖤

I can share the prominent topics and themes. The biggest by far was murder - ghost returning, bones rising, people facing consequences, murderers and monsters. The others are monsters, witches, devils and spirits. 🧟‍♀️🪦
